SF Chronicle Makes Any Protest Of Newsom Seem Like A Physical Attack

by Chronicle Lies
The SF Chronicle has always been on the conservative side, but their recent coverage of Newsom protests is downright slander. People carrying banner protesting Newsom's attacks on the homeless are made to sound like stalkers attacking Newsoms person.
Here is the SF Chronicle's coverage of pride that appeared on their front page.

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/c/a/2003/06/30/MN107379.DTL

Since when has carrying a banner been illegal. Why is it only when people protest Gavin Newsom that the police react this swiftly and this harsh? (remember when the police beat up Queer protesters when Gavin appeared at the new LGBT center?) Why is the Chronicles coverage of Newsom protests so one sided? Even during the Cash Not Care campaign they didnt sink to this level of dehumanizing the protests.

"Attacked" indeed!
Gavin Getty Newsom is such a whiner. I remember back in 1991 when mayoral candidate Frank Jordan was bounced off a plate glass window in the Castro and had his loafer stolen. In 1992, the group "Bad Cop No Donut" disrupted the parade and blocked Frank Jordan, who was then mayor. There was no word in the press about the mayor being "attacked."
It seems the growing trend of right-wing/corporate media is to demonize any protesters, we've seen this during the Seattle WTO demos, Gulf War II, etc. I guess we're meant to be good sheep and send checks to environmental organizations and PBS and wait for our tote bags.
by or surprised
that gay shame activists got busted. when you burn an effigy of gavin and the next day you surround his car, what did you think was going to happen? if any of these activists had the opportunity they would probably would have taken a swing a gavin instead of carrying a banner in protest.
by get your facts straight
An opportunity to take a swing at Newsom is not difficult to find. He often can be encountered in places where one could not only take a swing at him, but escape unscathed. If that's what they wanted to do, they'd have done it, and not in front of witnesses, either. The guy has an address, you know.

Ambush: it's a verb. Look it up:

do the pieing tactics of the biotic baking brigade mean anything to you? and why do they typically pie when there is an abundance of witnesses and media around? the answer is publicity.
by witness
lucky me, I was standing right in the front when the "pink-bandanna black clothing" wearing kids that the chronicle was talking about jumped into the parade.
from what I saw , which was, well, almost everything, there were not attempts to assault, there were not any reckless violenct acts like the chronicle is suggesting. the most violent thing, the closest thing to assault was a newsom crony getting up into the face of a protestor for flipping off gavin. he, out of anybody, should've been arrested.

the chronicle should be expecting several angry letters. if you're going to lie, don't do it in a situation where there will be a lot of eyewitnesses.

"Why is the Chronicles coverage of Newsom protests so one sided?"

Why is The Guardian's coverage so one sided ?

Why is SF http://www.indybay.org so one sided ?

Because San Francisco is a very one sided place.

That's why.

by I love cops (NOT)
The charges against these people sound like a police lynching to me.

I don't think the cops like people who wear masks... or people who protest... especially since the charges were dropped agaist those people who were arrested in the anti-war protests. The charges against these people are the cop's revenge against people they don't like.

My suspicion is that there will be no case prosecuted against these people, and the charges were only a means to keep them in jail for a few days and to put the fear of cop into them.
by i agree
i agree about the police lynching thing. my opinion is that since all of the anti-war protests, the police hate people wearing masks. i think they're afraid of "those evil anarchists". unnecessary arrest is a form of intimidation. they hope to send a message to protesters not to fuck with them or else. BUT WE WILL NEVER BACK DOWN!!!
