Ministerial Protesters: Support the Janitors in Sacramento

by RWF
Janitors of SEIU Local 1877 are on strike in the downtown Sacramento area
SEIU Local 1877 represents janitors that clean a number of privately owned office buildings in downtown Sacramento.

They are currently on strike in an effort to obtain health coverage for their family members as well as themselves. Janitors in almost all the other major urban California markets receive this benefit. It is, of course, virtually impossible for a janitor to pay for health expenses of a family member on take home pay of approximately $1,000 per month.

Protesters arriving from the Ministerial this weekend and early next week will encounter SEIU pickets at a number of office buildings in the downtown area. Please give them your strong support.

Here are some locations that I know where pickets will be encountered if there is no settlement (apologies for not knowing exact street addresses):

(1) The large emerald high rise building, with an Il Fornaio restaurant on the first floor, on the right side of the street as you come down the street from the Tower Bridge onto Capitol Mall

(2) The Senator Hotel building at the corner of 12th and L Streets

(3) The large highrise on the northeast corner of 12th and K Street, with a "The Broiler" restaurant inside

(4) Office building between 9th and 10th and L Streets, just off the corner of 9th and L, on the north side of the block

(5) Office building on 11th and K Streets, just off the street, across from the parking garage

(6) anywhere you see people picketing in purple SEIU T-shirts, I'm sure that there are many others

(7) there may also be vigil at either 14th or 16th and J Streets
