FILMS AGAINST WAR
Come check out local anti war coalition OUT AGAINST THE WAR with their new documentary this Friday at the Castro Theatre!!!
Hi!
This is an announcement about a VERY IMPORTANT film screening at the upcoming SF Lesbian & Gay Film Fest. The program is called ABSOLUTELY ACTIVIST FABULOUS and it features short films that examine the current state of queer activism including the very timely film OUT AGAINST THE WAR, which looks at a local SF queer activist group and their activities in the protests leading up to the recent SF shutdown in response to the war in Iraq.
Supporting this program is crucial if we as activists want to send the message that our message is worthwhile, as someone who was out there helping shut down SF, and spending my stamps writing letters to augment change, I think that supporting this kind of programming and visibility for our cause is the only way to continue to get exposure.
Let's fill that huge beautiful Castro theatre with as many folks as we can, and hopefully some of the people that come "just to see a movie" will see how absolutely activist fabulous our queer community really is.

JUNE 13, 3:30 CASTRO THEATRE
Absolutely Activist Fabulous
Taking to the streets, making our voices heard, and expressing political concerns through the arts are all venues queers have used throughout history to enact social change—locally as well as globally. In this absolutely fabulous collection of activist-featured shorts, it’s evident that our activism continues as illustrated by this impressive range of determined queers.
A clever spoof, 6PM IN AMERICA takes on mainstream news media that questions the media as a source of information. With tongue firmly in cheek, this is a perfect blend of humor and social criticism. The timely OUT AGAINST THE WAR features the San Francisco-based anti-war coalition as they try to rally the community, the Pride Committee, and local politicians to its cause. Full of local-flavored energy, raw testimony illustrates that even small groups can establish community solidarity and reach their goals.
The experimental and dreamy piece POETIX is more of a mood-setter that’s a great precursor to the finale of the program line-up. A CIRCUS IN NEW YORK follows Circus Amok—a troupe of gender-bending carnival folk, led by New York City’s infamous bearded lady Jennifer Miller. They visit poor communities and provide free public art in a joyful extravaganza of acrobatic artistry and satiric skill that also raises social awareness.
