Rumsfeld rationalizes denial of democracy in Iraqi.

by OzzyO
Is Rumsfeld in denial, is he from this earth? In this article he uses Hitlers method of rising to power as a rational to deny democracy to Iraq while his regime used the same technique to come to power and continues to use them to solidify thier power. What planet are these being from?
WASHINGTON -- Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld said Thursday that the transition to a democratic government in Iraq can't be rushed - and cited the rise of Adolf Hitler as an example of what could go wrong.

"If you think about it, Adolf Hitler was elected. So elections are not the certain judge. You don't want to have (an) election one time and then a dictator, and go right back to some dictator model," he said after a closed-door briefing with House members.

If elections are so bad will Bush decide we don't need any in 2004 or ever again?

by analogy goes further
One obvious analogy that Rumsfeld missed when he said that is that Ariel Sharon was also elected. So German Nazis elected Adolf Hitler and Israeli fascists elected Ariel Sharon.

Except Rumsfeld loves Israel so such an analogy is anathema to him.

You can say that again!

What a relief!

Give Bush more time to raise his level of darkness. He claims to be a Christian, while Hitler didn't. They both have had people killed for their evil purposes,it is just that Hitler fought against the world, while Bush fights against an unseen enemy.
Angie, for your own good, don't bother reading Nuremberg,The Last Battle. I should have never recommended it to you. Gehrig has called me everything evil under the sun. He has no concept of what I believe or think. He is entitled to his opinion , however wrong. I just don't want you to be labeled as I have been. Good luck and thanks for all of the great posts. You really know your subject in the Middle East.

Actually, Brian, I have every intention of reading David Irving's book as soon as time permits, and I thank you again for recommending it. I am not exactly unfamiliar with David Irving, being, as I am, a subscriber to several UK newspapers.

Where I grew up, we were taught that people are created equal. There was no such thing as one race being superior to another. I still believe that.

Your comments are yours. You have every right to make them. We agree on most things you've stated here, and because we are not following the sheep of the world, we shall be criticized. It's a time worn tactic that should be eliminated once and for all. Just remember it's a reflection, all right, but not on you.
