More Bechtel Protest Info
Just before 1:00 pm there was another round of arrests.
Just before 1:00 pm this afternoon there was another round of arrests. Approximately 20 more peaceful protesters blocked the doors to Bechtel and were arrested by a group of no less than 50 police, as at least 50 more police stood watch. The police lined up like kids in line at the amusement park to make the arrests. Unfortunately, there were more kids, er, I mean police, than protesters, so some of them had to go home disappointed.
Next time anyone complains about police overtime pay for dealing with protests, someone should take a look at pictures from this afternoon. Police in full formation, motorcycle cops all in a line, etc. It was such ridiculous overkill.

It was only overkill because the action was a wholesale failure, and your numbers were weak. Such whigning...."Those big bad bully pigs outnumbered us!"
What lessons might you draw from that?
-realist.

um, "whigning"? try http://www.dictionary.com
It really amazes me how conservatives define "failure" and "success." The Iraq war was a "success" because Saddam is no longer in power. Nevermind that the Iraqi people are worse off - they have less freedoms, worse food shortages, worse electricity shortages, worse hospital crisis, no chance of gaining profits from the sale of their oil, etc. Nevermind that no weapons of mass destruction have been found and both Bush and Blair will likely face formal investigation into their lying about "evidence" of WMD. Nevermind that the threat of terrorism (as GW defines it) has not been decreased in anyway.
But to those same conservatives, today's Bechtel protest was a "failure" because, um, why? All the news channels were there. Large numbers of people were educated as to how Bechtel deals with countries it works in (see Bolivia, etc.). That, to me, means it was a succesful day. We educated more Americans about the corporations that we allow to exist and the ways in which they are helping to destroy our world.
Success vs. failure - I guess it's all relative.
