Speakout Friday at Oakland High School

Come support the students of Oakland High School as they Speakout against repression in their schools and community.

Friday June 6th

Oakland High School (at Gate on1023 MacArthur Blvd. - outside the school, so open to the public)

Students have been speaking out, resisting, and organizing walkouts against the war that the U.S. government is waging at home and abroad. In response, the administration has been trying to silence students by

* suspending those who passed out walkout fliers

* putting barbed wire on the fence to prevent students from climbing them during walkouts

* silencing dissent in classroom discussions

* and most recently, allowing the Secret Service to come into the school and interrogate two students.

These kinds of OUTRAGEOUS advances in a New McCarthyism can not be allowed to go on any further. We will not, and can not live like that again. Please, we need adults to come and support the students. This principal has a history of disregarding students' wellfare, and is not above cutting corners and using white lies to stop student resistance. The youth and community organizations (Pueblo, Kids First, Real Hard, Youth Together, Oakland United) will basically lead an Speak Out RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE PRINCIPAL'S OFFICE. We really need adults; this is a chance for Parents and community members to express their outrage. Demand the freedom of speech that we, and especially the upcoming generation, deserve!
