Salmon River Tree-Sits Blockaded by Federal Agents

by Remedy
Freddies cut off ground support for tree-sitters.
Federal agents are blockading three tree-sits in the Klamath National Forest near the Salmon River. Small print signs have been posted along the road that leads to the tree-sits, but are illegible from a moving car. The signs state that this area of National Forest has been closed.

Columbia Helicopters, an international company that specializes in helicopter logging steep and unstable slopes, are clear-cutting the National Forest, which is, of course, why the tree-sits are there. Clear-cuts destroy water quality, endangered species, and the forests natural resistance to fire.

Two men attempting to visit and photograph the tree-sits were detained for forty minutes Sunday by three federal agents who ticketed them. While the men were detained they witnessed additional trucks of federal agents moving into the area. The two men must appear in federal court in Redding on Tuesday.

The tree-sits have been cut off from their ground support. Attempting to starve tree-sitters out of the trees is an old tactic that doesn’t always work, and can result in a standoff between hunger striking tree-sitters and deforesters. It is not yet clear whether the forest service and federal agents will attempt to extract the tree-sitters.

Girl, you get kicked out of Humboldt county, so now you are kickin around in Trinity county. Same old B.S./song and dance. Your act is getting old, and so are you. Instigation is at best a hobby, but more often a personality flaw. Get a job and actually provide a real concrete service to the rest of your brothers and sisters. Or if that is offensive to you, why don't you just keep on movin on, and go help the third world countries where they have no logging restrictions and generica america is sucking their resources dry. I'm sure they would appreciate another know-it-all American in their zone. Go for it. Do some real good, you poser.
by duh
Well gee, third world has no logging restrictions. As if their are restrictions in place here in amerikkka. Ever hear of the slavage rider or the so called bushy healthy forest initiative. Why is it that the last mill on the mendocino coast is closing shop? Guess it's cause the cut and run mentality is so sustainable, that jobs are abundant. The dribble double speak out of the timber flunkies mouth is appalling. Cutting the most fire reisistant trees on public lands is not fire protection, it's a give away to the timber beasts.

You are an idiot.

Duh,
What do you do for a living besides run your mouth. Yes Redwoods are fire resistance to a POINT! you got that, to a point. A redwood can withstand a grass fire, but the forest floor is littered with dead trees that have blown over from wind storms, or the tree itself is dying and branches litter the forest floor. Have you ever been out to help fight a forest fire DUH? I guess not the way you write. A forest fire is more distructive that any clear cut could do. The high temp of a fire bakes the soil. So when it rains, the water just rolls off without soaking in. It can cause floods in small creeks. It can undermine tree roots, banks of streams. When was the last time you looked at all the snags along 101. The trees are dying. Are you going to say that P.L. done this? No matter what is on this earth, everthing has a life span. That includes old growth. When you see the top of the tree without any leaves, the tree is starting to die.

Tree-top activists endure over-head helicopter logging, violent cops/feds/wingnuts, and standing witness to the destruction to the last intact forests left on Earth being systematically destroyed. Feel free to leave all your poopy comments here, while kick-ass tree-sitters are occupying and defending ancient forests while you contemplate the loss of your corporate master/addiction.

Tree-top activists? my what a delightful name you have created for the transients of the north west, the bums that have been cast out of civilization
in fact this action is the desperate act of a group of homeless who for one reason or another has waisted thier lives and futures. So in a despriate attempt to justify thier existance, these poor lonley sad little creatures cling to this rediculas story.

1.(((standing witness to the destruction to the last intact forests left on Earth)))
would you like to tell us just where the last forest on earth is located?

2.(((while kick-ass tree-sitters)))
please describe how one kicks ass while perching in a tree?
does he kick a fellow tree percher? is this some kind of ritual of yours?

3, when you "sit in your tree"..........do you wear costumes? this sounds like a "frisco" thing.
by Marian the Librarian
How many librarians would it take to distract the feds long enough to get some baked goods up to the tree-sitters?

To "too funny" and other posters who are so cruelly abusing the English language: I'm certain your computer has a spell- and grammar-checker. Please learn how to use it. It's painful to read your posts.

I am wondering,
since you eco-tree-persons are just hanging around anyway, what is your opinion on the whole earth first thing? they are taking in donations right and left. They even bought a recording company.
if they have money for that, then why does Woody Hearldson have to go out and buy out of his own money "poo buckets" for the eco-tree-persons?
why is your organization not supporting it's protesters.

Go back and read your books.

So, Marian, got a Volvo station wagon full of goodies baked yet? I'd hate to think you were bullshitting. And be careful, it might be muddy out there!
by Marian the Librarian
Actually, I'm nowhere near rich enough to buy a Volvo, though both my husband and I have good jobs. I really am thinking about going out to feed the defenders. It makes me ashamed to let the young people do all the important work to save my country's resources without making some effort to support them. And yes, I do a lot of volunteer work in my community during my off-work hours, as well as take care of the kids, the dog, the cat, our little house and yard, etc. So you might say I do enough already to support my community. But the thing is, the corporations are stealing this country away from the working class and corrupting the values on which our nation was founded, and if we don't make an extra effort to stand fast, we will wake up too late with nothing left to be proud of or to take joy in. So I think the tired, middle-aged, middle-class has a responsibility to stand up along with the young folks and call for a higher standard than corporate greed and dirty tricks to which to hold ourselves bound.
by Dis-Tractor
The working class disagrees with you. And there are lots better ways to make a contribution than by supporting the shirking class. Like really informing yourself instead of regurgitating politically correct drivel and making up lame poetry.

it just sounds like you have way,way too much time on your hands. or you don't like your life. but you are looking in the wrong place. you must come to accept your self before you can become one with nature. if you look inward you can see the world.
