OPD Crashes Party
Oakland Police intensely responded to a large and loud Memorial Day picnic at Mosswood Park.
Oakland Police intensely responded to a large and loud Memorial Day picnic at Mosswood Park in Oakland late Monday afternoon. Oakland Police ordered the crowd to disperse and soon afterward began firing teargas. A young woman caught in the action summed up her view of the situation by saying, "The police get nervous when too many black people gather in a group." After about 45 minutes the situation came to anti-climatic end when the crowd was dispersed after the police chased partygoers down city streets and through parking lots.

the cops were there in response to a stabbing incident (or two) that occurred during the "festivities"...
i think its very bad reporting to not mention the stabbing if there was one in the original post, but did the cops coming by make things any better?
i certainly doubt it.
from the report of people yelling profanities at the cops i doubt the locals think the cops made it better either. then again, with people not mentioning that there was a stabbing in the original post, i can most certainly see that the claim of people yelling profanities at the cops was made up.

from sfgate:
A crowd of about 1,000 unruly revelers clogged streets and attacked trapped motorists in Oakland Monday, prompting officers to deploy "stinger grenades" in an attempt to bring the mob under control, the police said today.
No injuries were reported in the street confrontations that began at about 2 p.m. and did not abate until after 10 p.m., according to Officer Danielle Ashford.
The crowd, mostly made up of out-of-towners according to the police, gathered on West Macarthur Boulevard between Broadway and Piedmont Avenue, nearby the Carijama Festival that was held, for the most part peacefully, inside Mosswood Park.
West Macarthur became impassable from Piedmont to Telegraph Avenue, with some members of the crowd jumping on top of cars and breaking the windows of motorists who were trapped by the mass of people in the street.
Others at the scene raced cars and turned doughnuts in sideshow-style displays, according to the police.
After hours of orders to disperse went unheeded and bottles began to be thrown at the police, officers lobbed stinger grenades, which explode into a hail of rubber bullets, into the crowd to try to regain control of the roadway, Ashford said. No injuries were reported to either officers or civilians.
By about 10 p.m. the scene had been cleared out, although some of the revelers reassembled later in East Oakland, the police said.
Officers arrested 12 people for failure to disperse and various driving violations, and towed some 30 cars.
Ashford said the event cost the Police Department $32,000 in overtime.

What do people expect? Everyone should know by now that Oakland is by far the worst place in the Bay Area. They have four times the murders as San Jose, a City which is 5x larger. Anyone in their right mind would avoid Oakland (I work in downtown Oakland and it can be TERRIFYING at times)
I only reported what i saw and what i heard. I did not rport anything about a stabbing because I did not see any signs of a stabbing and no one I talked to mentioned anything about a stabbing.
The cops do NOT work for us. The time has come that we ALL join together and put an end to all their bullshit. If you think you are immune, you are blind. Its all about keeping us divided and scared.
hey peace out, your an idiot! Its time to use your brain not start shit with it!
The police haven't worked for us in a long, long time! It's about time we stand up to their game. I'm down and am aware of the cops where ever I go. I work to demobilize them when ever possible. Question there authority. Look out for your brothers and sisters. We will not be intimitated by undercover cops taking our cameras when we tape police brutilizing our neighbors. Inflict as much damage as possible, when possible. I'm not suggesting physical violence but cars, buildings, equipment are all game....... get creative!
the oakland police are one of the most corrupt and politically repressive organizations in the united states. anyone who defends them is either stupid, naive or corrupt themselves. how do we end the occupation at home?
dear, am-i-fascist,
what's the matter did the OPD break up your little crack party??
