at last u doing a good protest.

I keep hearing about "gas guzzlers", but dont the people burning that extra gas also buy it - and with that, pay a host of direct and indirect (through the refineries, shippers, and retailers) taxes, permits, licenses, and environmental impact fees?

Aren't gasoline refineries forced to donate tons of money to the govt for environmental programs and other green charities?

If you really want to hit the oil companies, look into the collusion between the EPA and the gasoline refiners.

For example, some of the "clean-burning additives" that we have mandated by the EPA, are specifically designed *by the refiners* to thwart new fuel efficiency technologies like ultra-sonic atomization of fuel.

The oil companies have been using environmentalism against itself. If you studied technology instead of hating it, you'd learn about these things.

Cars aren't the problem. Evil oil companies, a corrupt EPA, and short-sighted, reactionary, easily-manipulated environmentalists are the problem.

I had a Volkswagon once that ran uber-clean (above average) at the smog check, but failed because I'd removed a bunch of Kalifornia's stupid "smog equipment". I re-installed the stupid parts, and not only did engine performance suffer - it now made average smog levels.. which was 30% MORE than it had made with that crap off!

Now I have a sports car that gets 12MPG. As an engine tuner, I could and would love to increase that mileage *and* get more power out of the motor. But as a victim of Kalifornia environmentalism, I'm barely allowed to change my own spark plugs anymore.

Ford has a very disturbing history when it comes to fuel efficiency and other trans issues, not to mention Henry Ford's pro-eugenics (Nazi ethnic cleansing) politics and his support for Hitler (along with Prescott Bush, the American fuhrer's grandfather)..

Much of the reason LA has some of the worst air quality from fossil fuel smog emmisions (NOx, CO and ozone) is because of strong pressure from Ford and GM, also Chrysler during the time after WW2 when the automobile was given divine status. LA actually had a really good public transit system, electric trolleys and trains were efficient and fun, you could meet people and socialize..

Ford did not like this because the profits from transit were not good enough, so all the newly found petroleum was processed and the byproduct asphalt was paved over wildlife habitat and clear cut forests. The trolley tracks were also paved over, and now LA is a traffic nightmare thanks to the greed and short sightedness of Ford and his ilk..

This process is continuing today, with Ford still the leaders of the largest gas guzzling vehicles around. The economics is irrelevent, worrying about who's paying for what tax is just more bullshit distraction from a dying system with it's robot claws sunk deep into our flesh..

The petroleum being burned in these ineffeicient vehicles is a wasted resource, simple as that. Money being funneled into highways instead of public trans, bike trails and alternative fuel is doing the future generations a disservice. Ford doesn't care about the future, only their own pocketbooks. Thisa is what happened to LA, and will continue to happen as long as Ford is operating..

SHUT FORD DOWN!!

I'm a member of the UAW. I work for an environmental non-profit. A lot of UAW members aren't even working in the auto industry. You know, it takes just as many union members to produce a clean and fuel efficient car as it does a sprawling, inefficient SUV. UAW members actually supported higher CAFE standards, it was management that refused to support them.

Without taking up too much more energy on cyberspace, i'd like to elaborate on the history of Ford and Bush's grandfather supporting Hitler, and why this is relevent to the discussion..

We are dealing with an overall pattern here, the creation of an obvious monster (Hitler) by more secretive monsters (Ford, Bush and others) so the secretive monsters can later take out the more obvious monster and look like heroes. This relates to the same behavior of GW Bush and Saddam..

Why are 10,000 Shi'ite Muslims protesting in the streets of Baghdad while holding posters of the Ayatollah Khomeini, the former leader of Iran? One theory is that when the Ayatollah overthrew the Shah in a popular revolution, he represented the greatest threat to American Oil at that time (70's-80's). So to counter this, America helped Saddam by giving him high tech weaponry, allowing him to build up military might and oppose the Ayatollah of Iran. After the Ayatollah's demise, Saddams power grew until he became the next greatest threat to America's Oil. He was a monster that we created, and the people of Iraq know this, that is why they are protesting America's Oil Occupation of Iraq. (Not to mention the killing of Iraqi civilians from fallign bombs)..

Back to Hitler, someone mentioned the book "Crimes and Punishment of IG Farben", this covers the German chemical conglomerate IG Farben that manufactured chemical weapons for WW2, and also traded info on fluoridation of drinking water with American corportion Alcoa aluminum. These toxins (fluoride compounds are waste products of aluminum manufacturing) had effects on the brain and were used in concentration camps to keep people docile. Anyway this is just one example of the industries in America and Germany collaborating, until the eventual overthrow of Hitler that left America and Britian looking like heroes..

The facts point to Bush's grandfather, Prescott, and Ford having directly funded Hitler and helping him gain power quickly. This same pattern in visible now. Saddam was funded years ago to fight against the Ayatollah, as the Taliban were praised as heroes by Ronald "McDonald" Reagan because they were fighting the Soviet Union. The Taliban became the protectors of the passage in Afganistan so the Russian Soviets would not be able to gain access to the Middle Eastern Oil via land. They were abusing women back then also, but Reagan chose to overlook this because they were fighting the communist Soviet Union. Bush was involved with the CIA at some time also, and was directly involved in this behind the scenes. If we recognize the crimes of the Bush family, and i've completely left out daddy Bush and the first war with Iraq, but clearly the Bush family is power obsessed and will do anything to maintain their hold on the American Oil monopoly..
