Friday (tomorrow), 7PM at Starry Plow, on 3101
Shattuck Ave in far South Berkeley (right next to La
Pena, 3 blocks north of Alcatraz.
What an awesome day today was!!! About 2,000 people
came, legislative visits were fantastic, the rally was
nearly flawless and the reception has been fantastic.
Powerful speakers, intermingled with amazing
perfomances, and spoken word, Emceed in a professional
and exciting manner by students with the help of Mike
from Books not Bars! Students were fantastic and
powerful, well-spoken and presented great vision and
presence!!! I will write a more extensive analysis
and next steps thoughts tomorrow. For now I am
exhausted.

The democrats totally *need* visible evidence of the large majority of the population supporting this because the prison guards' union, the CCPOA, is the most powerful guard union in the country. They're famous for throwing their weight around, and just attacking anyone who dares go against them. They give large amounts of money to the opponent of anyone who opposes the building of a prison or doesn't support their pay raise to $75,000/year base pay during the recession, and then that representative will be out of office the next year.
It's an incredibly difficult nut to crack. Their grip on legislature is easy to underestimate.
