Amnesty International: US Soldiers Parade Naked Prisoners Through Baghdad Streets
LONDON - Amnesty International said it was disturbed by a Norwegian newspaper report that included a photo purportedly showing U.S. soldiers escorting three naked Iraqi men through a Baghdad park.
The U.S. Central Command said Saturday it is looking into the report.
In its report Friday, Oslo-based Dagbladet newspaper said four Iraqi men were detained by soldiers early Thursday after entering a park where weapons were being stored. It said the men were then stripped and paraded through the park before being pushed onto a street.
The story featured three photographs, including one showing a man with the words "Ali Baba - thief" scrawled in Arabic on his chest. The phrase is a reference to the classic tale "Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves."
One picture showed three naked men in the park with soldiers walking behind them. The soldiers were in a shaded area and it was not possible to clearly see their uniforms.
"If these pictures are accurate, this is an appalling way to treat prisoners," London-based Amnesty International said in a statement. "Such degrading treatment is a clear violation of the responsibilities of the occupying powers."
A Central Command spokesman, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the U.S. military was looking into the report.
Navy Lt. Cmdr. Charles Owens of the Central Command said he couldn't confirm the report, but if true, the soldiers would be disciplined.
"If they are under our custody, any public display goes against the Geneva Conventions. It's just not something we would do," he said. "That goes against everything we stand for and have been preaching against since day one."

US Has No Shame
Can you believe this?
What kind of people (so-called liberators) would do this to other human beings?
How disgusting and dispicable, and what a statement it makes about the US. No shame is right. No respect for humanity, just low life..

Okay, severed hand photo guy, so it's possible to treat people worse than parading them around naked. That doesn't mean it's okay to do it. Especially if you've invaded the country claiming a moral high ground, and complained about the enemy's violation of Geneva conventions. If this is what it looks like, it is not acceptable.
I must admit I'm curious about how something in Arabic got onto that guy's chest. The US Army isn't exactly renowned for its grasp of Arabic. Waiting for more details about the incident.

You see, if the U.S. blows someone's legs off, it's because it was responding to unprovoked aggression. If Arabs or South Asians do the exact same thing, it's because they're barbarians who deserve to have their fucking limbs blown off by cluster bombs.
God Bless America.
God Bless America.
Israel's brutal invasion of Lebanon gave rise to Hezbollah as a reaction. It s inevitable an organization will arise to counter the US Occupation and could eventually force the US to withdraw as Hezbollah forced Israel to withdraw from Southern Lebanon..
Repugnant activities such as the ones reported here will only accelerate the process.
Bush, et al believe they won a cheap easy victory. But the real bill hasn't been presented to them yet.

I sincerely hope you're right!
so why not? thats what they understand well.they call it scharia in islamic countries and if theyx beat his ass to sore i would not mind.and i bet they do!
I'm sure the age of the prisoners had much to do with "the punishment" metted out to them.
Very troubling,
But those Iraqi Men are HOT!!!!! Makes me want to join the Army to see men like that!!!

Reading msg like yours, I'm ashamed to live on your same planet.
Some people here seem to jump to conclusions
A) are they US military?
B) if they are - are they acting on comands from the US government or are they just a couple of people who are disobeying orders ?
The second argument reflects people like angies view that the US and the government ae responsible for all crimes of anyone with whom they are associated however somehow dictators and other people are not esponsible or more contradictory logic of they are responsible but no one is allowed to punish them for it..ermmm
Also that they are responsible for the bad events they cause but not the good ones.

First of all, the only evidence supporting any of this is a photo of naked "prisiners" walking about 10 steps in front of American troops.
Where? We assume Iraq.
Why? Everyone seems to want to believe that they are prisoners of the Americans. How do we know that? Maybe the Soldiers rescued them. Or set them free who whatever.
Fatc is, is that the only compelling evidence is the fact that one photo shows a man with arabic scratched into his skin. Clearly, our troops are NOT very well versed in arabic. It seems rather unplausible that we did that.
No, I'm sorry to say it, but you'll all have to keep looking for an atrocity. This one doesn't seem to have panned out.

This story has appeared in every major newspaper around the world. You can doubt that its true but the military is admitting to it saying that they thought that it was a "traditional" punishment (whatever that means when traditional is Saddam Hussein's dictatorship)
Its easy to deny the truth but it just makes you look like a tin foil hat wearing crazy when you deny something the US military has already admitted to...

And this makes it true, how?
This is a nudist camp in Jersy, next to a military training post. Thats all.... The writing on his chest says we love all americans!!
Hey, sounds like an Indymedia story right? So its got to be true....

If it is all over the world please link to a web site of a news organition that has published this story (I mean a news organization that is conservative enough not to make up a story like this.)
If you look closely at the photo showing the soldiers and the three naked men you will notice that everything in the photo except them naked men are casting shadows. There are shadows near their feet from some kind of frame work, but no apparent shadows from these men. Looks like Photoshop work to me.
The US military admitted to this and apologized so while you can try to make everything a conspiracy by people with Photoshop ...
Amnesty international is just another anti-American organization that attacks the US at every opportunity. They should be ignored. Photos can be doctored so that in itself is not convincing evidence -- but even if accurate -- so what? These people are murders, thugs, and killing Americans from ambush so they are naked. What about dragging American dead through the streets -- they get what they deserve. Screw Amnesty International, the UN, and the French
I find this sort of simplistic logic always baffling - first brand others murderers and thugs and then argue that they had it coming to them anyway.
In the meantime completely ignore that your own way of thinking and actions contribute to permeate such a climate which allows such actions to take place.
In the first instance you would not know what personal circumstances compel people to commit certain actions. And in the second instance you might consider that your assumed prerogative that the US comes first in all its (assumed) needs, to the disadvantage of others actively contributes to what you may consider actions against the US.
Sometimes I wish I could live in such a simple world as yours, but it appears pretty dull in terms of sensitivity and comprehension.
The Golden Rule still applies: Do not unto other that you hate having done unto yourself.
So if you want to ridthe world of thieves and muggers begin with your aown attitude and walk in someone else's shoes for a moment.
