Anti-capitalist call to shut down the Sacramento Ministerial

by sacramento
more militant call for the sacramento meeting

From June 23-25th 2003 the Ministers of Trade, Agriculture and Environment from 180 nations, including all member states of the World Trade Organization (WTO), will meet in Sacramento California at a summit hosted by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), USAID, and the US State Department. This meeting will be a stepping stone to the September WTO Ministerial in Cancun and the Summit of the Americas scheduled for Miami in November. This meeting will be held the same time as an "Expo On Agricultural Science and Technology" which will be showing off the "benefits" of transnational agribusiness and biotechnology.

With this meeting and Expo the United States through WTO is planning on forcing its agricultural agenda on the rest of the world. Agriculture in the most debated issue in the WTO, and for good reason, food affects everyone world wide. Yet both the ministerial meeting and the Expo are not open to the public. The rest of the world has no say. We can not allow these bastards to impose their rules on the rest of the world.

The reasons for shutting down the WTO and putting an end to neoliberalism are far too many to name here. So much suffering around the world has already been caused by neoliberalism, now they are trying to add even more through their agricultural agenda, and their forcing of the biotech menace upon the world. Concerned activists from northern California and around the world will gather in the streets on Sacramento and tell the biotech industry and the WTO to go to hell.

The day after the invasion of Iraq started activists shut down San Francisco. We are calling on individuals and affinity groups to stop the invasion of our food supply with a militant shut down of Sacramento for 3 days.

There will be spokescouncil meetings every night from June 16th, through June 26th. Come with a plan of action and be ready for a capitalist-smashing good time.

After Seattle I thought they were afraid of the west coast. Remember to bring legal methods of self-defense, like shields. and a concealed weapon liscenes.
REMEMBER WACO?
REMEMBER WILLY AND JERRY AND JONESTOWN?

Get here early. All the agricultural ministers from around the world are showing up the night before. theyre renting out the entire Hyatt, which is right next to the sacramento convention center, which is where the meeting is taking place. COME PREPARED. Try to get an affinity group together before you come, but if you cant, meet up with people in sacramento. the more organized we are the better.

sounds like one of the best ways to stop the meeting is to stop them from getting to the hyatt.
block off the airport.
and if we cant stop them we can at least make sure they dont get a good nights sleep.

from http://www.biodev.org/sacramento/:

>COME TO SACRAMENTO

The resistant spirit of Seattle, D.C., Prague, and Quebec is alive and flows through Sacramento towards Cancun and beyond. The Coalition for Sustainable Agriculture is in the process of planning a response to both the meeting and EXPO. Events in Sacramento  will include a "permitted" public demonstration and march, media events, street theatre, public education forums and literature, and non-threatening but disruptive direct
actions. Our intent is to non-violently confront the powers that control our food systems with an alternative to their destructive, self-serving
vision. We have adopted some basic guidelines of non-violent direct action for this mobilization and encourage a diversity of creative responses. They
are not philosophical, political requirements placed upon participants or judgments about the validity of some tactics over others. The guidelines
are agreements that create a basis for trust, so we can work together for this action and know what to expect from each other.

We will use no violence, physical or verbal, towards any person. We consider speech or acts that are racist, homophobic, or sexist to be violent. We will carry no weapons. We will not bring or use any alcohol or
illegal drugs. We will not destroy property. We will respect the rights of others: we want your energy, ideas, and participation regardless of differences of race, ethnic background, sexual orientation, age or previous political affiliations. We invite others to join us who are willing to accept our "guidelines" which we believe best serve the interests of our community, here in Sacramento. <

So, you're unilaterally setting guidelines for trust around a meeting that effects the health and safety of the entire planet, but you "respect the rights of others". Hmmmmm...

Personally, I have a big problem with "no property destruction". By this definition, even committed pacifist organizations such as Plowshares would be not invited, among several others. This sounds like an attempt to discourage militant protest for the cameras. Last time I looked, the corporations that control the media also control (or at least are in bed with) agriculture.

Also, is it possible that you could put forth the guidelines that you all want to work with and around (assuming that someone from your group is reading this), instead of saying "trust us on our terms"? That strikes me as rather unilateral and, well, authoritarian -- or to put it another way, verbally violent.

I also question the right of one group to say that they represent a community as large as Sacramento. Why not just say you represent yourselves? If you're gonna talk like you're anti-authoritarian, please walk the same walk.

Yea,
Those "Guidelines" we're put out by the group thats organizing the MAIN rally. The only reason they put those in was so they wouldnt get in trouble for any property destruction. Theyre a bunch of rich white people. they certainly dont represent sacramento, or all of the activists who show up to protest. Still. Dont pay attention to their call to action. the one youre looking for is the one posted here on this website. If you truly want to protest in the spirit of Seattle, Prauge, DC, and Quebec, and on into Cancun, do you really think the Sacramento protest will be non-violent? COME PREPARED!

As long as the call is getting out (which it appears to be), and it's not just them, I'm sure it'll be lots of things, most of them good.

In terms of non-violence: I don't have a problem with people choosing to be non-violent as long as they're not, well, violent (AKA your typical white rich liberal who wants to march against genocide because it makes them feel good -- as long as their priviledge doesn't get challenged in any way, including property destruction, marginalized peoples speaking out, and so on). I'm sure it's gonna be great.

As for myself: no comment. (big grin) Packet sniff this, nazi thugs: (holds up middle finger). SEE YA THERE!

If you're fighting capitalism, its a good idea to understand the structure of the world financial system and how to defeat it.

Here is wisdom...

Profit and Nothing But. This is the title of an anti-capitalist, anti-globalism independent film. It airs occasionally on Wordlink TV. One of the best intellectual films I've ever seen, it studies the cause/effects of capitalism on the island of Haiti.

Simple request... some peeps suggest citywide actions cuz police will all be downtown. PLEEZE!! Re-consider... there are lots of fair minded anti-war, corporate madness and anti-hate young people in the hood. How do you tell which family owned business (franchise) is the enemy? Let us sleep...

what a bunch of morons!
I fully expect that if this is the intellect that is organizing this "little parade" that it will not even make a ripple.
I would be surprised if anyone besides the organizers show up.
(this is sad)

The enemy is capitalism and more specifically multi-national captialism. If you are a franchisee of a multi-national corporation, be warned. Your company is fucking up the earth and anything you gget, you deserve.
