rally in Sacramento (http://www.may8.org) or donate to the effort, call Critical Resistance at 510.444.0484 or e-mail CRnational [at] criticalresistance.org
Upcoming Meetings (details below):
Monday, 7PM: May 8 Coalition
Tuesday, 5PM: East Bay Educators Justice Network
Tuesday, 7PM: SF School Board vote on May 8
Thursday, 4-6PM: May 8 Youth Council
Planning a May 8 Field Trip:
Please plan a field trip to the May 8 Education Not
Incarceration Rally. At yesterday's Community's
leaders meeting, that included School Board President
Greg Hodge, Union Presidents Morris Tatum and Sheila
Quintana, Alameda County Superintendent Sheila
Jordan and SF School Board member Mark Sanchez
we discussed extensively how to make sure the event
was a valuable field trip for teachers wishing to
bring their students.
Two curriculum committees were created, one for older
students and one for younger students and curriculum
will soon be posted to http://www.may8.org; buses will be
provided, and the day will begin with a lobby training
for students that will discus both the issues and the
decision-making process in Sacramento. This is an
excellent opportunity for students of all ages to get
hands on experience in the California state
decision-making process, to learn more deeply the
issues of prisons and education spending, understand
racism within these systems, and to see that education
is not just a process of learning history, but is
actually a process of learning how to make history.
If you plan on bringing your class, please contact the
Critical Resistance office to reserve your space as
soon as possible. I hope your spring break has been a
good one.
