Israeli Military Murders British Peace Activist Thomas Hurndall
A friend of 21 year-old Briton Thomas Hurndall shows his passport as doctors try to save his life in a Rafah Hospital. Thomas Hurndall later died after being targeted for assasination by the Israeli military for his humanitarian work in Gaza.
Peace activist shot by Israelis is named
A British peace activist shot in the head by Israeli troops while protecting women and children has been named by the Foreign Office.
Thomas Hurndall, thought to be in his early 20s and possibly from the Manchester area, is believed to be brain dead but still breathing, according to the International Solidarity Movement (IMS).
A Foreign Office spokeswoman confirmed that Mr Hurndall's family had been informed.
He was apparently shot by Israeli guards at a checkpoint in Rafah, after gunfire led his group of nine activists to abandon their planned protest.
Tom Wallace of the IMS said the incident happened in a residential area, and local children had come to watch the activists' protest, as they often did.
He said shots were being fired over the protesters' heads from one of two Israeli watch-towers nearby.
"The activists and all the women and kids decided to move away from the area," Mr Wallace said.
"They were moving very slowly, and he was standing in front of the women and kids to protect them while they were moving.
"They were trying to evacuate the area and that is when he was shot."
Mr Hurndall is due to be transferred to another hospital after initially being taken to the intensive care unit in Khan Younis.
US activist Rachel Corrie was killed last month while working with the same group when she fell in front of an Israeli bulldozer.
The group's claims that the bulldozer ran her over were denied by the Israeli military, which said the driver did not see her.
Brian Avery, 24, another of the group's American activists, was shot in the West Bank city of Jenin last week.

Israel is desperate to kick ISM out so that there will be no witnesses to their ethnic cleansing which they hope to increase with the cover of war on Iraq.
This is little different than the US targetting journalists in the hope that they will leave so that no one can witness the carnage that is happening in Iraq.

"ISM sent YESTERDAY an announcement that they will open up a battle with the army near the mosque in Raffah. This was pre-meditated by ISM. "
Alice, I do not know what you are talking about? ISM does not send out announcements to open up battles? They are NON-VIOLENT ACTIVISTS ....next time, please do your homework before you post.

I don't get it. I thought we would all learn from our history and not to repeat the same mistake. Movies show the sufferings of Jews by the Nazi ib WWII and we all suppose to learn NOT to commit similar atrocities on anyone any more. I suppose the Israelis government and many of their people have forgotten what they once preached to the world.
What holds true is that Power corrupts. The administrations of Bush and Sharon are committing atrocities against Palestine, Iraq and the Middle East region without any repercussion.
I suggest we throw away all the history books in the world. They serve no good purpose in preventing same mistakes and same atrocities from repeating. History books seem to help the ruthless and powerful people to "perfect" the same atrocities.
