legal update for April 7 picketers

by atg
The three John Does and the remaining woman were released late last night with no current charges filed.
The three John Does and the remaining woman held at Santa Rita jail were released late last night--after midnight--with no current charges filed, because the DA was unable to get charges filed within the allotted time limit. This means that all picketers/legal observers/ILWU folks should now be out of jail. It is now time to start calling the Oakland DA and demand that all remaining charges be dropped against these folks. Try calling 510-268-7500. As of this writing no DA has been assigned to these cases yet, and no paperwork has come over from the Oakland PD that the DA would review before deciding which cases to dismiss, so they are likely to be uninformative and tired of getting phone calls at that office. But the phone calls *will* make an impact.

What can we do to help. I'm a native CA but now live in MN...besides calling the local news sources and asking why this wasn't covered in the news, what can we do to help? Are the protesters going to sue the city and P.D.? What does Amnesty International have to say? I feel like having a protest out here in support of you in Oakland. Besides what the police did, I am as equally sickened and disheartened that the pictures of the photos were not shown in the news. So what if the Police strike for higher pay and benefits, who will shoot wooden bullets at them?

in support of protests agaisnt repression this was nto the first time that anti-war protesters were fired upon in this fight. They were fired upon in Eugene OR in August of 2002, and in Colorado Springs, CO in February 15.

This makes the third time a police force in the United States has fired upon peaceful demonstrators. and I think that not only Oakland but all of these police violences need to be addressed as a whole. That Oakland was just the third in a series of these repressions.

Not only this but here in NYc where I live they are arresting protesters for no reason. The police in the USA are not separate from the military machine. and our protests against war in Iraq are directly related to internal policing of the USA.
