was the fact that they were shooting these things into the crowds for
more than two hours!
A recent Democracy Now! report has them coming in with their riot gear,
and clearly none of the riot cops were prepared to arrest anyone. No one
saw beltloops full of plastic handcuffs or busses or anything throughout the
entire demonstration.
http://www.webactive.com/pacifica/demnow/dn20030408.html
Back to the two hours. These cops are being assured that their weapons
are non-lethal. (I believe the real term is sub-lethal)
If you hit someone 5 or 6 times with this crap, there's a good chance the
person is going to die!
And that's not my biggest problem with this particular event. If you spend
two hours shooting these people rapid-fire like that, non-stop; where does
your memory play into this. Where do your fantasies play into this.
40 years from now, when a few hundred of these riot cops have alzheimers,
they are going to firmly believe that they shot to kill over and over and over
again. They are going to be unable (or at least have great difficulty) to sort
out anyone in their previous military career they killed and any protesters in
the US they maimed in "battle."
When you point a weapon at someone you have conducted a heinous act
of violence, when you pull the trigger it's even worse. I don't care if it's a
tumbler round inside, a tiny cylander of wood, a beanbag or a blank. I don't
care if it's in the act of raping or pillaging, defending yourself or your loved
ones, or "liberating" an enemy's nation. Justified and rationalized or not, it
will still have been a heinous act of violence.
I know someone who killed a child molester. He will be the first to tell you,
he did the wrong thing for all the right reasons. He lives with that for the
rest of his days. He takes 50 minutes of therapy every week. He will probably
never stop.
My three years in the army, I had to ask over 300 chaplains before I found
one single one willing to tell me that firing a weapon at someone to kill them
is wrong, period, end of paragraph.
Again, whether justified or not, whether following orders or not. It's never
right.
Never right.
Never right.
Pointing a weapon at someone is wrong.
Shooting it is worse.
To any law enforcement who might be reading this as a forward:
GET HELP.
THE FIRST STEP IS ADMITTING YOU HAVE A PROBLEM.
We've been militarizing the police forces drastically since as early as 1996,
near as I can tell, and it only got hundreds percent worse after 9-11. We now
live in very dangerous times.
And seeing cops fantasizing about dead protesters for two friggin' hours
scares the shit out of me. Especially knowing what video games they're
likely playing in ALL OF THEIR SPARE TIME and what military units they
came from before becoming cops when they couldn't score high enough
on the police exams without the extra ten VA points.

Great post. I'd suggest sending this to Oakland CIty Council.
Hey genius...quick couple of questions:
First Question: When the Southern States ceceeded from the Union, which they have a legal right to do, did so peacefully, and without attacking any Northern Cities, States, or Armies.....
....was it wrong for the Northern States to use force to hold onto the south and end Slavery? By your logic, yes.
Second Question: When Germany had conquered most of of Europe and was dead set on taking it all, and had also been slaughtering Jews, Gypsies, and all others they wished by the hundreds of thousands....
....was it wrong for the allied forces to use force to stop them? By your logic, yes.
Third Question: When Japan was dead set of fighting to the last man as the allies slowly took control of the Pacific, and the estimates for casulties involoved in taking Tokyo were staggering...
....were we wrong to use force and kill only a hundred thousand instead of the millions that would have died with a conventional invasion? By your logic, Yes.
Sometimes force is necessary, otherwise someone will stomp on you just because.
There are bad people in the world. People who don't have any morals or ethics whatsoever. They don't care about talking. They don't care about laws or reason. They care about power....and if you can't stand up to them someday, they will crush you. That's part of life. It's not pretty, but it's very, very real.
Here's a tidbit of fact for you:
During times of war...which, you yourself have claimed is occurring, since you are protesting a "war"...anyone who actively tries to harm the US goverment or military or interfere with the goverment or military from carrying out it's duty is committing SABOTAGE. By actively trying to stop supplies to the troops in Iraq, those protesters were committing SABOTAGE.
Sabotage is a FELONY punishable by ten years in prison AND/OR a $10,000 fine.
One more question: Do you know the difference between SABOTAGE and PROTESTING?
Protesting:
1. A formal declaration of disapproval or objection issued by a concerned person, group, or organization.
2. An individual or collective gesture or display of disapproval.
Protesting in a peaceful manner AND WHILE NOT INFRINGING ON THE RIGHTS OF OTHERS is guaranteed under our constitution.
Sabotage is not.
Sabotage is a crime.
One last question: Have you ever heard the saying that your rights end exactly where someone elses begins?
The actions of those people were infringing on the rights of others. The same as all the people who were "protesting" and trying to shut down NYC and SF. Their actions ARE NOT protected under the Constitution BECAUSE THEY VIOLATE THE RIGHTS OF OTHERS.
Have I made any sense here, yet?
If you want to protest, please do. There is no harm in that. But when you start disrupting businesses and interfereing the supply of the Armed Forces, you are committing a misdemeanor at the least and at the worst, you are committing a felony.
The Police have been nice thus far dealing with incidences around town. When you start interfering with the Military, they will slap you down....AND THEY HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO DO IT.
That's their job. They are there to make sure that the supplies get to our troops.
They asked the protesters to disperse. Some did. Others did not want to go.
They asked again for the protesters to disperse. More did, but others remained.
They stated that they would use force to remove the protesters. Those who didn't leave got some nasty bruises.
Be glad you weren't dealing with Military Police.
MP's don't have to be as nice as regular police.
MP's have one function: protect the military. If you are trying to stop supplies to the troops, which would harm the troops, the MP's are going to do harm unto you until you are in jail or you decide that you'd rather be somewhere else.
Got the picture yet?
1. Protesting is fine.
2. Do not interfere with Military supplies.
3. Interfering with Military supplies = Sabotage.
4. The Police officers asked the protesters to leave.
5. The protesters didn't leave.
6. The police dispersed the crowd.
7. No one was killed or severely injured.
8. Your rights end where others begin.

I recommend you reread your reply here.
Then reread the original post. There's nothing more
I need to reply to.
You've made yourself look ignorant AND stupid.

With cowardly traitors and desperatly failed crooked businessmen in the "White" House who failed to defend us on September 11th, are looting the economy to your detriment and the world's, have turned the right wing media monopoly into a propaganda machine and are out plundering and pillaging Iraq and anyone else with loot we want a peaceful protests like that is the least we can do. I doubt concrete was thrown and if it was then target those individuals.
Bushy and Donald "Duck" Rumsfeld are allegedly trying to kill one man and have droped almost 25,000 bombs, killed over a thousand civilians, destroyed, probably billions of dollars worth of real estate. It is a like Donald Duck cartoon with donald in a blind rage trying to kill a single hornet and destroying the whole house.
These police and their brown shirt brothers, along with the propaganda machine, are the means by which our country, our democracy, standard of living and all, are being robbed from us.
Bush and Company should be hanged for treason.
Uniform Code of Military Justice
899. ART. 99. MISBEHAVIOR BEFORE THE ENEMY
(6) quits his place of duty to plunder or pillage;
(7) causes false alarms in any command, unit, or place under control of the armed forces;
(8) willfully fails to do his utmost to encounter, engage, capture, or destroy any enemy troops, combatants, vessels, AIRCRAFT, or any other thing, which it is his duty so to encounter, engage, capture, or destroy;...
...shall be punished by death or such punishment as a court-martial may direct.
Justice Jackson on War Trials Agreement; August 12, 1945 Nuremberg War Crime Tribunal We must make clear to the Germans that the wrong for which their fallen leaders are on trial is not that they lost the war, but that they started it. And we must not allow ourselves to be drawn into a trial of the causes of the war, for our position is that no grievances or policies will justify resort to aggressive war. It is utterly renounced and condemned as an instrument of policy.

That's all well and good...if you can prove it.
Frankly, there is only extremely loose circumstancial evidence that even crosses the border into unbelievable.
The protester's actions are well documented by the police, the media, and the protesters alike.
Whether you want to admit it or not, they were comitting sabotage as listed under article five.
As for your claims, your evidence is flimsy at best.
Wake up and smell what you're shoveling.

You mean like the Bush crime family?? Why do you think those protestors were there?

Documentation of what? Where there military shipments being blocked? Do you believe they seriously expected to shut down the war by directly stopping some shipments and not make a show of it for publicity?
I was with forward air traffic control for the bombing of North Vietnam for several years. Our operations were "special". We were informed that they were "special" due to the additional level of secrecy required. Specifically they told us it was "secret from the folks back home...because they wouldn't understand". The Vietnamese claimed, in 1995 that we killed 2,000,000 civilians there. 3,000,000 all told in North Vietnam alone. While that may be exagerated it was a lot and I was very glad to see people in the streets here upon my return. Their "patriotic" detractors are cowards, carnivorous sheep, who are afraid of girls shaking their butts at the "police" etc. Big Republican elephant terrified of a mouse.
Watch out!! Iraqis will get you!

mr. marco, this is an eloquent piece. might i suggest that you change the title to attract more level-headed & friendly attention? and thank you for adding your brains and experience to this crowded bar of Opinion and Rumor and bile
"fuck 'em" is what i tend to say when i'm too angry to say it right. since you said it right, i think lots more people should hear it...explicative titles help.
keep talking, either way. and don't let the bastards grind you down =)

I think it is good to engage the right wing clones. As I stand at the intersections here in Eureka the minority of Bush "war" supporters hurl invective and totalitarian accusations at me. They need to be deprogrammed.
Invective is appropriate; it is their language.

explicative: explaining...for instance, explaining the content of an article
expletive: incendiary, often delicious cuss word
aiight. everyone has his own style of fucking.. mine runs more toward the consensual, i guess especially because so many "friends"/"comrades"/like-minded-people live here and read this site.
i know that eugeners aren't so lucky. i encourage you to practice "deprogramming" (hmm..sounds awfuly orwellian) via invective if that's your bag.

From video of the event, I saw a lot of taunting of Dockworkers by the protestors, with a few people in their cars trying to turn around, afraid for their lives at one point.
Its good the police opened up on this crowd, as things were out of control by the time the police opened fire.

friend; I don't use much invective but do when angry and engage a few of the people who yell republicrap at me as they drive or walk by in their taunting manner. They often threated violence as well.
Unlike the last poster, I don't feel it appropriate to shoot them with anything. I may get the lizard brain urge, but like to think I am human enought to not carry a weapon and use it on people yelling "fuck you", "asshole", "You're un-American" and all the rest of the orwellian slogans and invective. Young women wiggling their butts at me just doesn't seem like an instance where such brutality is required. These "police" in this incident should never be entrusted with weapons.

Before waltizing through the rest of your arguments, one tiny historical point to make: We claimed we wanted 'unconditional' Japanese surrender, yet we left the Emperor alive and untried when it was all over.
This was the one condition the Japanese had apparently needed when they tried to begin negotiating surrender via third parties in July of '45.
We used the bomb not because otherwise we'd have had to take the home islands one by one, but because we had a new toy and needed a) to show it to the Russians, who'd scared the hell out of us by winning the war against Germany and b) we needed to see what the effects of it would be on people. (there was a US research facility established immediately after the bombing, and for decades anyone who'd been in Hiroshima or Nagasaki when we hit them and died of any cause was shipped to that facility for study before being released for burial. My source on this is Burchett's _Day After Hiroshima_, which also discusses the diplo traffic surrounding surrender - and Truman's response to it after hearing that the test shot in the desert had worked.)
But, your basic claim is this: that the current rulers of the US are the legitimate ideological descendants of the abolitionists and of the folks who decided to enter the second world war.
Guess what? They're not. They're the ideological descendants of the fascists. Nixon had to dump a shitload of CREEP donors very quickly after their role in putting Jews in ovens came to light; the World Anti-Communist League continues to meet regularly, and they're some of the most unrepentant fascists going. They include some of those dumped out of CREEP as well as plenty of long-time Republican advisors. A number of the folks who got exposed to public view during Iran-Contra were WACL members, and -mirabile dieux! - the Iran-Contra crminals have now been rehabilitated and reappointed to government positions (Abrams, Negroponte, Reich to name but three; rumor has it that Ollie North is back on the Federal tit again, too.)
These are the people who urged us not to enter the war against Germany because it'd be terrible for us to kill our Aryan brothers. Because we needed to *back* Germany in its war against the Bolsheviks. The people who actively engaged in sabotage in New Jersey during WWII.
Quick thought excercise: during the late 1930s, which world leader had the military and industrial power to initiate warfare in multiple theatres simultaneously? Very good. Mean Mr. Mustache.
Now, during the early 21st Century, which world leader has the power to initiate warfare in multiple theatres simultaneously? And an interest in doing so?
(hint: it's not Hussein, at best a regional threat. Second hint: once again, a spineless Brit is appeasing him.)
Now, back to your legal citations. My read of the Nuremberg precedents is that soldiers and citizens cannot use "following orders" as a defense in the instance of aiding and abetting war crimes. The injunction is quite the opposite: disobey illegal orders, put your bodies on the gears.

Due in very large part to being armed by Prescott Bush and the eugenics fascists he represented. See my website or hordes of others on the subject. As for Hiroshima and Nagasaki and the precedent it set, I think it is the "do what we say or we'll kill yer kids" strategy. Does the Mafia even do that?

What a paradox. Your infantile personal attack is typical of the bush clones who have no argument. Marco is just pissed off. oops...rather angry and rightfully so.
I can't remember the bible quote verbatim but it was something about straining at gnats while ignoring the mote in one's own eye...correct me if i've missed the meaning. I've probably mixed the metaphors anyway but you might be able to strain really hard and get my intended meaning. Those "police" are FUCKED for their unprofessional attitude and what they did Monday. It is dumb dick heads like them and their brown shirt buddies that have facilitated the ruination of this country; destroyed our democracy, our economy our credibility and much more and made us the most hated people on earth in the process. Oh, and the most imprisoned. http://www.kcl.ac.uk/depsta/rel/icps/worldbrief/highest_rates(manual).html
They still have no reasonable defense in place but are using 911 as their "Reichtag fire", to justify their assault on civil liberties and world conquest. There is no greater enemy to the American people and our alleged democracy than bigots and brutes, of any sort, in uniform.

"You mean like the Bush crime family?? Why do you think those protestors were there?"
1. You seriously need to learn to read and follow a thread. This was directed at someone who stated that violence in ANY sense was wrong. Wake up.
2. If you are saying that the protesters were violent, then the non-violence thought is out the window...or...if you are saying that they are standing up to a "bully," then they have every right to protest all they want. The point being, if you break the law and get your a$$ handed to you, don't go crying about it.
It makes you look foolish and weak.

The "police" are provoked to shoot by girls wiggling their butts at them, the anonomous supporters of the "police" are overwhelmed at the word "fuck" but they defend bush's attack on innocents. They are not bothered by dead and maimed kids with battlefield wounds who have lost their Moms and Dads or any of the rest of what pure evil is being perpetrated in their names. In all of our names. What Ivory Tower cowards.

Bean Counter; There is no worse crime than "police" who take the law into their own hands, who don't believe in the laws or the court system they are sworn to uphold and who "choose to deliver punishment". May they all get what's comming to them and may all their dumb and un-american supporters get what they deserve. As I said before it is people like them who have destroyed our democracy.

Part One: “Documentation of what? Where there military shipments being blocked? Do you believe they seriously expected to shut down the war by directly stopping some shipments and not make a show of it for publicity?”
There are video accounts downloadable off of Indymedia right this second. There are also a few posted articles on here that are by those who were there. When you get past all the ranting at the cops and the usual buzzwords….totalitarian, Nazi, Zionist, Fascist, etc….you’ll find that people readily admit that the cops asked for dispersal numerous times, opened fire, then stopped and instructed everyone to head for the BART station and that they would be left alone as long as they ceased committing crimes. The protesters decided that they’d try a blockade somewhere else and they got bean-bagged again. Tough noogies.
Also, I don’t believe that they could shut down the war anymore than you do. The fact is, they broke the law and they should be punished. Don’t like the law? Have a bill proposed that says “Anything is okay as long as it’s done for publicity.” I’m sure that would fly, wiseguy.
Part Two: “I think it is good to engage the right wing clones. As I stand at the intersections here in Eureka the minority of Bush "war" supporters hurl invective and totalitarian accusations at me. They need to be deprogrammed.”
What is it with you people? I thought you were the groups who are all about love and tolerance? Where is the tolerance of those who have different opinions that you? They are either Nazi's or they are brainwashed? Geez....
I must be mistaken…it’s only tolerance of those who agree with you and think like you. Sounds like a mustachioed beret wearing fellow I’ve heard of on TV lately. Hmmmm….
Part Three: “There is no greater enemy to the American people and our alleged democracy than bigots and brutes, of any sort, in uniform.”
Aren’t you the guys who are prone to say “One man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter?” Well, you’re “thug” is my keeper of the peace.
The law was broken by the protesters.
You can not, no matter how badly you want to, deny that simple fact. The response was not serious and had the desired effect.
If you want a crowd dispersed and don't want to have to club people and engage in hand-to-hand combat to remove the crowd, then they followed standard proceedure. If you don't want to catch a bean-bag, stay on the side walk and don't touch the cops.
Sounds kinda simple when you think about it....but nah....law's only apply to other people and not you, because you're "Right" and you not "programmed," am I right, Noel?
Wake up, sport. Whining just makes you look worse.

FUVK vigilantes who have contempt for the law, think the court system in the most imprisoned country on earth, the USA, is "too liberal". And FUCK bad cops who are vigilantes.
"The police chose to deliver the punishment at the time of offence." They should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law for what they have done. And I don't mean just the assault and battery but the mis-conduct AS "police". I think they and Jerry Brown should have a long, thorough trial and be executed for treason by the "liberal" court system. Terrorist scum.

"police" who take the law into their own hands"
You obviously are ignorant of many things in this world. With your every post I see more and more holes in your thoughts.
1. Ammuntion of a specialized nature...such as the bean-bag shotgun shells...have to be checked out of the department lockups.
2. The wooden dowel-like projectiles are 37mm....that means that one would have to get a specialized weapon for that....which must be checked out.
3. Riot gear....as the officers were clearly wearing....must be checked out.
What does this tell us?
The tactics used were approved before hand, since you can't get all of the above without special permission.
The law was DEFINATELY NOT taken into the police officers own hands. They were given instructions prior to the engagement on what to do and when to do it.
It's called Crowd Control Tactics. Look it up. It's how you stop a mob, a riot, or DISPERSE A CROWD THAT REFUSES TO LEAVE.
Do some research other than the regurgitated info off your website.

"fascist" and the rest of these words are not "buzz" words; they are accurate. Un-American" and all of the other Stalin style totalitarian rhetoric are. I am not a pacifist I am pro democracy, am for law and order in a system now ruled by the lawless. I am not even an advocate of civil disobedience in most cases including this one. If the "police", political enforcers, cannopt control themselves that is far, far worse than the ass wigglers and intersection blockers. Hardly "cry babies" hardly "whining". Pretty guttsy if you ask me. You FUCKS always use the Pee Wee Herman defense. You are a bunch of FASCIST cowards.

I was responding to "The police chose to deliver the punishment at the time of offence." concerning vigilantes and also the violent nature of the pro-bush pro-brutality crowd but you, petty hypocrit that you are with very many posts here, need an excuse to find fault. The definition of fascism is "regurgitated" from a "right wing" dictionary. Do you make up your own definitions? None of you treasonous bastards ever says anything original or thought out and then belittle everyone else on earth as "liberal".

<i>"No, the police are doing the right thing. If you break the law, you pay the price. "</i> when the "police" are the judge, jury and executioner they break the law and if someone up the chain of command orders it so much the worse; it is the coup de grais of freedom here in the most imprisoned nation on earth.
<i>And no more personal attacks, okay, moron?</i>
The Pee Wee Herman defense = "I know I am but what are you?!" and you lawless FUCKS use it all the time in your brutish arrogance. You have NO ARGUMENT; only personal attacks and recycled brainwashing.
I wasn't claiming to "care about the children" but wonder why you don't and have contempt for human emotion. I am not defending Saddam either, though havn't heard of his prison for kids from the propaganda machine or more honest sources. I have a new 17 year old stepson (my son's older half brother) here from florida where he suffered emotional damage and will never likely have any love for authority due to being ripped from his home at 14 for shop lifting and placed in a prison for kids.

JUST SO'S YA KNOW:
I chose to include the words "Fuck The Police"
with an awful lot of deliberation and care.
If you read back to many posts I've made all over
the internet you will see that I use the word "fuck"
perhaps once or twice a year at the most.
That I used it 3+ times in one story should perhaps
tell you something in addition to the very words
themselves. Try reading the article a second or
third time. You might catch some extra meanings
in there that some of the better informed readers
in the world might even get on a first reading.
I'm not trying to sound condescending here in any
way, but for anyone who attacked me on these issues,
I must say that's certainly more your problem than
mine.
Why would I have deliberately taken this path?
Go to the very bottom, I think I remember it
as the 3rd or 4th to the last paragraph where
I recommend that of the many law enforcement
officials who will be reading this thread (AND
WE DO KNOW THEY WILL) I want them to feel the
same "crisis of conscience" I felt when I served
in the US signal corps during Panama and "Desert
Shield Part 1 in 1-D." For law enforcement officials
who "trawl" the hell out of all the indymedia -
I can surely guarantee that not a single fed
will pass up a piece titled (fuck the police).
You know that, Ice-T knows that, we all know that.
It was by design. If you can't figure that out on
your own, I don't have much leftover energies
these days to hold your hand on this one.
I'll only tackle one other comment here. Many
seem to think I'm proposing total pacifism, or
appeasement. I'm surprised none of you are trying
desperately to shove "Neville Chamberlain" down
my throat here.
I never said I expected war or violence to ever
become 100% avoidable. I just explained why I could
NEVER participate ever again. In any way shape or
form. My own personal trip, which I will never shove
down someone else's throat. That said, I must also
point out AGAIN that each of these times we admit
defeat and conduct violence or war, (no matter how
justifiable it could ever feel) even after "winning" --
each and every one of us MUST reflect on the fact that
it's still wrong and still VERY harmful.
It is.
Always will be.
Has never been otherwise. Try some Shakespeare or some
Moliere. Or perhaps some of Orwells newswriting or
Hemmingway's newspaper articles too.
No one wins when war is practiced in the end. All that
can be hoped for is survival. And oftentimes a shitty
one.
And this, you will have to learn as I did.
With a heart heavier this moment than each last moment,

Noel is angry. Why? Because, due to his illegal drug use all these years, he cannot think coherently.
If he COULD think, noel would know the police are not using lethal force. He would know they are not out of control. He would know the protesters are law-breakers, since they block traffic, disrupt city services, and generally give vent to their fascist beliefs. He would know the police are taking appropriate measures to prevent chaos and the loss of life and property.
But noel can't think. His brain is fried. All he can do is take another toke on his bong. Rock on, noel!

Amazing how many infantile personal attacks noel has made in this thread. And amazing too how it attempts to deflect the Iraqi children in prison as from propaganda sources. Just where did it get the propaganda image it posted?
Right on Marco. I have never heard anyone defend Saddam Hussein at any demonstration and don't know anyone at all who advocates disbanding the armed forces or otherwise giving up our self defense with the exception of the Republican "leadership" who state that "the best defense is a good offense" as they grieviously offend Iraq and the rest of the world. Meanwhile no one has answered the question "why were those Airliners able to fly around the east coast for so long on September 11th?". Not because they don't spy on us enough as they claim. We are the most spied on people on earth. Where was our Commander in Chief? Is it possible he didn't have any more concern for our air defense than he did when in the Air National Guard?

you said "First Question: When the Southern States ceceeded from the Union, which they have a legal right to do, did so peacefully, and without attacking any Northern Cities, States, or Armies..... "
which is complete bullshit. Ever hear of Fort Sumter? While generally considered the act of agression that began the war, the "[remeptive" firing on the fort in Charleston harbor came after a number of other Federal military posts had been seized by southern state militias, some from states that had not yet seceded.
If you're going to use Civil War history in making your so-called argument, please know what you are talking about.

If so you could offer sane arguments instead of trash talk. I am angry because our country is being destroyed and dupes of the brown shirt variety are facilitating it. I have been angry for a long time. I was discharged for it and associated mental problems after 3 trips to bomb population centers in North Vietnam. I am not ashamed of feeling bad, just my envolvement and the fact that it was done without the sanction of the electorate from our mission was especially secret.
Fools with no argument spend their time putting others down. None of you shit mouths are worth a pimple on Marco's ass. Not a put down but a matter of priorities.

The children in that photo-op look healthy. We have very young kids incarcerated here. One 5 year old was sent up the river for shooting a spit wad or paperclip with a rubber band and putting another child's eye out. Not in Iraq, Iran or Alabama but here in "liberal" California. Tyrants always show what good and humanitarian things they do like the Nazis giving apartments to homeless germans...after they took them away from their former Jewish occupants, tortured and killed them. "Liberating" those kids is very nice but doesn't compensate for the illegal war, the killing of civilians and looting of the mid-east.
Will they have a democracy to grow up in? not likely. The 'democracy" we set up in Afghanistan has a king as it's head. A has-been puppet king, and the country is worse off than before other than that they don't leave the bodies of execution victims out for three days anymore, just 15 minutes and have stopped using the soccer stadium for them.

OK, one way to "reality check" is to get out of one's self-centered thinking, and look at the world around. Let's do that.
How many allies did Hitler have? How many countries agreed with him? On the other hand, how many allies did the U.S. have in fighting him?
How about now? How many countries are trying to attack the Iraq regime? And how many fronts is the U.S. fighting on?
OK, since you are into REALITY, which one is the closer analogy?
-Ken

NOEL: "police" who take the law into their own hands"
MR:
YOU STILL HAVE YET TO CHALLENGE THESE FACTS.

If the states have declared themselves seceded, have declared that they are a nation unto themselves, and since Fort Sumtner was in South Carolina...one of the Confederate States, then does not all “Federal” property and other assets belong to the Confederacy?
Since the Confederates seceded, which at the time was something that was not prohibited by any law or in the Constitution, they had a base of a hostile nation...the Union...sitting in their territory.
For the record, I think the South was wrong to in it’s intentions, I think their actions were deplorable, but the analogy I put out still holds water.

Incidents like this will serve to separate the REAL anti-war protesters from the fuckhead wannabes who aren't commited but show up because it's cool, and there are no consequences.
Next time wrap your body with energy absorbing material like, several layers of cardboard, thick leather, shellaced paper, etc., and wear a helmet and face shield. But prepare yourself to be hurt anyway, boysandgirls, because you will!
