i mean, just how fucking weird-looking and ugly can these cops get? they look like robots. what the hell is wrong with these psychos?? WHICH FREEDOMS ARE THEY PROTECTING EXACTLY?
by stephen
jacob,
the oakland police are there to "protect" you from us "commie animals"? that's just silly. were any of those protesters a threat to you? no. they were expressing their outrage over our government's behavior. in case you've forgotten, that's what freedom in america is supposed to be all about. we are able to express our views regarding our government's behavior. if you don't like that, jacob, perhaps you'd prefer to go live in north korea or kuwait or any other place that doesn't have real freedom of speech or freedom of assembly. everyone there keeps their mouth shut real good. just like you like it.

get an education, friend.

Simply put: We are at war Stephen. Get your head out of your ass and accept that. This action today was designed to impede in some half-baked fashion, the transportation of supplies to our troops. If you can't see how that's a threat then you are simply a fucking idiot. So, shut the fuck up and sit back and enjoy the war. It's going along great and as we speak Iraqis in Basra ARE dancing in the street.

I've been doing some research online about the types of rubber / plastic bullets and wooden baton rounds. Now I'm curious about which specific kinds of rounds were fired, because the videos show police officers firing at pretty close range. Whereas the majority of the rounds I've seen discussed and documented have a minimum nonlethal range of something like 20 meters (70 feet). Not to mention that they should never, ever be aimed above the waist.

I know the lawyers are probably already on it, but I wonder if some kind soul who hung on to one of the rubber bullet rounds could post what's written on the side of them so I could look into this a little more. It's a good talking point for all of us anyway.

FYI, here are some quotes from the rules of engagement for police in Northern Ireland, where the largest numbers of these rounds have been used and where they are quite controversial because of several deaths and permanent injuries.

Rules of Engagement:
"Only to be used on the command of the designated local commander, in situations of potential violent disorder. Its use must be no more than absolutely necessary in the circumstances, and there must be no alternative other than the use of lethal force."

"Baton rounds are to be fired at selected individuals, not indiscriminately. They are to be aimed so that they should strike directly (i.e. without bouncing) the lower part of the body (i.e. below the ribcage) they are not to be fired at a range of less than 20 metres unless there is an immediate and serious risk of loss of life or serious injury, which cannot otherwise be countered."

I wonder if OPD even has rules of engagement.

Bob,
I'm trying hard not to just hate you. Maybe you just haven't thought enough about this. I am a hard-working hourly laborer like the ones you mention. I ride a bike to work because I want clean air. Whether I am blocking automobile traffic or not (usually not), cars are polluting my air. Even if I lived in one of the repressed societies you wish to "liberate" with violence, I would still be affected by air pollution (air pollution is so liberated it crosses borders at will)--whether or not I ever get to ride in a car. More than half of the people in the world will never even ride in a car. They will never even make a phone call. It might seem important to get to "work," but maybe you could do the rest of us a favor and think about what or who you are working for. Why are the lives of workers here more important than the lives of exploited people around the world who are suffering for your convenience, looking at the other end of a gun that you are content to let others shoot for you. Just driving your car or working at your job might be doing more harm in the long run than any war. It is a long term war against our planet, and our planet is losing. We are fighting in large part to get MORE oil, for MORE cars, so MORE people can adopt a standard of living which is not sustainable or realistic. As a biker and industrious working citizen, I feel that automobile traffic is constantly blocking ME. Yes, cops take a lot of shit. They knew that when they signed up for the job. Yes, we should make political attempts to change this situation; but guess what? Time and again, those who try are bought off, smeared or assassinated for their trouble. Every dirty job needs someone to do it. It's up to all of us to decide not to be that person. If legislation and politics were the solution then the powers that be would just eliminate crime. They can't. And they can't stop us either. They're getting paid. We're not.

MMM, I'll try telling that to the Iraqi who lost 15 members of his famiily; mother, father, wife, 6 children...Or rather why dont you? Fuck wit

Soon, all the countries will rise above the United States. This is inevitable. As the demand for more and more natural resources around the globe grows to accommodate unrealistic living standards that in this age cannot be sustained, countries will join forces to overpower what will viewed as an 'enemy'.

I feel sorry for all Americans that are trying to make change without success. But change will not happen, provided the capitalist system exist, where you are controlled by the corporations that YOU created.

Please, for the love of humanity, live simply.

That's nonsense. WE ARE THE WORLD. You all are simply servants. Accept it.

Officer Freeman wasnt involved in anything at the docks. He was a federal officer guarding the Oakland Federal Building and the picture was included to show an example of weapons that might have been used.

There actually is no confirmation of the use of Pepper Ball guns. All of the injuries were from wooden or beanbag bullets and possibly from rubber sting balls (often called `concussion grenades').

Here is a link to a compay that sells riot control equipment. Note teh warning on the items. If anyone find links to other sites it would be good to ID exactly what was used.

This company seems to sell something that looks like the wooden bullets that were used:

The 12 guage shotgun casing from the beanbag bullets say they are from "Defense Technology" http://www.federallaboratories.com/

Looking at that site the new products look different so the weapons used by the OPD are probably older version of Defence Technology products.

I bet the people of Basra too are enjoying the war, and that's why they're dancing (or maybe they just don't want to be shot by their "liberators"

We are not the world, and to think so is just like those british imperalists that the U.S. fought to get away from. (which, by the way we have truly become) Through out history, nations have attacked other nations because of the recources that they are in control of. What happens when the rest of the world gets hungry and cold and we're nice and toasty here in a society that steals and kills for it's riches?
THINK ABOUT IT
by Lauren
My younger sister was involved in that protest. It was completely peaceful. Those police had apparently had other offenses against them, such as arresting people of color for no reason. I am totally ashamed of our country.

Nikki, you will be very fortunate if you do not find a man who beats the hell out of you. I do not wish this upon you, but if you think that men like this are attractive, that's exactly what you will end up with. I don't blame you. That's what you have been conditioned to think. You are a dupe, Nikki. Go read something in feminist literature for crying out loud and don't spend your time trolling indymedia. What a waste. Women can't be free or whole while subservient to men. Partners not playmates. Geez. Bet you don't even know what a communist is. Now, I think I am going to go be ill.
by Joy
First off, I just want to say I in no way support the police, America, or capitalism. But I do want to say that in a sense I agree with Nicole in that I also find strong men much more attractive that the more effeminate ones. Sometimes I feel very guilty about this as many of the guys in my workshops tend to be on the effeminate side. I find myself agreeing with their views, but I don't find myself attracted to them. Has anyone else been confronted with delimma?
by John B
I just don't think anyone should criticize someone for what they find attractive. Physically capable people are attractive. Period. That's why we have "Muscle and Fitness" magazine and not "Fat and Sloth." I don't think anyone should have to apologize for finding "strong" people attractive. It is biologically programmed in each of us to seek strong genes to mate with. Survival of the species and all. I also think it is unfair to categorize all strong people as abusers, since it is usually the weak that are guilty of that and they are abusing to compensate. Just my 2 cents.

Z,

On Monday April 28 there will be a community forum on police violence in Oakland. I'd like to include some of your April 7 photos in a display for the event.

Please contact me to discuss.

Thanks!

Officer Freeman is a gay man who is a failed criminal - that is why he is pouting his mouth while waving guns at the public.

Thanking him only demonstrates that you are either him, or you are insane.

All law-enforcement officers are failed criminals who are merely a brown stain upon society.

by not nobody

Let's not insult gay people, nobody.
by think before you speak
In order to get a full perspective on the situation one must first get all the facts...and views. I ask all the "cop haters" out there to put your selves in the shoes of an officer before you spout your hatred. There are some power hungery, abusive officers out there, no doubt, but the majority of them are good people trying to do a job of protecting the community. The gay bashing? solves nothing and to generalize officers as a whole as brown stains and failed criminals is no more wrong than saying "all black people are criminals." Dont generalize, dont bash, and above all get all the facts and think before you speak.
The assortment of weapons being used in some courthouses on some days would amaze you. The same goes for some government buildings. Stunning through ionization of air with controlled hertz could leave you without a clue, except for that wire that tracked to your brain from the new innoculation gun for the brain washed and controlled American.

Mobile Audit Club has an assortment of weapons, some on the market, some just designed, but not all that you know of.

We are not even allowed to vote in the S.E. USA, and we are beaten and arrested in injected from Los Angeles to Alabama. If their buildings have thick metal roofs or sides, they might be part of a bigger social control device that utilitizes new advances in physics to commit war crimes that you can barely imagine.

Demand open electronics testing with cameras in all buildings of steel, with steel roofs, or buildings that have satellite dishes directed into them. If they fascist regime in control says no, contract with someone to remove the building. Some contractors prefer nightfall.

The factions of USA government has created a prison state and the criminals have hooked up their tourniquets to the American citizen, from oil to Mexican Medical Marijuana to heroin, to alcohol, to tobacco, to their propaganda and distraction medium, television and radio.

Beware of injections into children. What is ultimately in the vial has not ultimately been tested on your specific child and his immune system and vulnerabilities.

They do not care about us, and therefore we should not care about those who harm us and restrict us from viewing and testing in government buildings and buildings and antannae of long wave horns and short wave horns and transport devices in our neighborhoods and communities.

Beware of being near metal government buildings. New physics tools. The Twin Towers were not downed for the Afghani's. They were downed because of the isolation of news and facts concerning the true use of those buildings, satellites, and new methods of manipulations within physics.

Let the regime fall. We can set up a new election for all through the computer, with audits by as many exterior auditors as desired. Open government, or crushed buildings? They have chosen closed government.

The option is now. Mobile Audit Club
