Rubber Bullets Used Against Oakland War Protesters

OAKLAND, Calif. (Reuters) - Police fired rubber bullets on hundreds of anti-war protesters
blocking a road near Oakland's port on Monday, witnesses and officials said.

Police at the scene said they used two types of rubber bullets to disperse about 750 people
protesting against the U.S. war on Iraq (news - web sites). Some arrests were made and the road
was reopened.

§9:15 Port of Oakland

I returned from the Port of Oakland where lines of about 20 motorcycle cops were chasing about 100 protesters from 7th and Union (?) in the Port area. They were exploding percussion and flash grenades to terrorize the protesters. Talk of tear gas earlier in the morning when I was in a small picket along Mid Harbor Way.

Protesters are singing, carrying signs, walking in peaceful pickets last I saw before they were chased down into an alley just off from a highway entrance ramp.

Yes, I have heard of at least 4 reported injuries from my cluster (and that's just what we know so far):
Three individuals have multiple welts on their back from rubber bullets.
One individual was hit in the hand with a rubber bullet and is being brought to Alta Vista hospital with possible broken hand.

This afternoon or evening, some radio station in the Bay Area will play the Dead Kennedys' "California Uber Alles". The DJ will dedicate it to Jerry Brown (former Governeor, now Mayor of Oakland) and his boys.
