Kolkata Nike showroom attacked

Kolkata, April 02: The anti-war frenzy took its toll today as a group of demonstrators belonging to CPI(M-L), a Naxalite faction, attacked a Nike showroom at the Threatre Road smashing the glass exteriors, damaging computers and mannequins worth Rs 50,000.

The ultra-Left demonstrators throng the outlet at 2.00 pm shouting anti-American slogans and hurling stones on the glass exteriors. The demonstrators also managed to put up posters around the shop before fleeing.

The attack led the Reebok showroom, just opposite the Nike one, to pull down its shutters. Concerned about maintaining its new image, the state CPI(M) has agreed not to a boycott of American and British goods as proposed by other Left parties.
