SAN FRANCISCO, On Wednesday, over 150 demonstrators came out yesterday to protest CNN's coverage of the Iraqi war.

The protest, organized by Global Exchange, Media Alliance and Code Pink, was to highlight the fact that CNN and other cable and national news channels should show the graphic realities of war, not the sanitized, video game-like coverage that is saturating the airwaves currently.

Demonstrators brought pictures of people who have been affected by the bombings, depleted uranium and starvation due to sanctions and demanded that this imagery be shown to the world.

Other criticism heard were that the media played a role in ushering the American people into this war by refusing to have, or limiting, war critics on their broadcasts, and by using "embedded" military and CIA men as consultants on their broadcasts.

Organizers also said it is not enought to just put the cameras on war protesters but that networks need to broadcast interviews with organizers of anti-war groups and coalitions.

Please see http://www.media-alliance.org/action/mediawarletter.html for a good analysis of the media coverage.

Looks to me like a whole 50 people showed up. I guess taking pictures of the same people at different angles and places makes for the look of a "real" demonstration, huh. Talk about slanted media. Sheesh.

Where you actually there?
If not, how can you comment about how many people were there and "slanted media"

I was there, filming. I am the one in the middle of the 2nd photo and on the right of the last photo.

I filmed the entire event. These photos do not show the whole crowd. They show a VERY SMALL portion of the crowd.

I will put up other photos (later today) that are reflective of the number of people that participated in this demonstration. http://www.kirstenmichel.com

In the future, if you were not actually at the event...don't criticize the people who were. If you were there, you would actually be able to comment truthfully on the situation. Otherwise, your comment is simply an expression of your emotions and has little validity other than that. Thank you.

you can see by the previous comments that CNN and its allies have been very successful at turning the brains of the average american to garbage, and dangerous garbage-they ought to be the ones sent to irak themselves, it they want a war there so much; you can bet that without all their over-pampered comforts, these "amerikans" would lose their enthusiasm pretty quick. these clowns, in the majority or not, have always been eager to commit vicarious violence on some easily-stomped third-world "enemy", and have always displayed the most total cowardice when the possibility of their own victimization appears...

THIS GUY HAS TO BE CNN FOLKS!

And if you are "NOT", you smell like one. Very divisive politically and not very saavy photographically. The photo looks crowded to me. That's what they call; "the left eating itself."

If you are progressive, I have 3 posative suggestions (kid):

1. you need to learn to work with people
2. be supportive of those trying to do good work.
3. ...and bring your own camera next time fool.

The easiest way I've found is to hit them where it really hurts, in the ad budget. I have consistently called CNNs advertisers to complain about their coverage of the war. I tell the advertiser I find it morally bankrupt of them to sponser a network that glorifies war and human tragedy. That I will never buy their products again and that I will tell my sowing circle, book club, religious group, co-workers etc not to buy their products unless they immediately stop their sponsorship of CNN.

Bear in mind, on Day X my church group blocked traffic then went for lunch, where we faxed The Mayor to remove these people from the streets. That's how the pressure mounts. The beast has many heads.

in this time of hatred, have love in your hearts and be strong

you weren't watching CNN dude, that's for sure. if you found the reporting on whatever show you thought you were watching not to your liking, then please try this sit-com, entertainment, juvenile, cartoon news show called FOX "NEWS" (the quotations are original). it's a barrel of laughs! but it might too pro-saddam for some...

In response to CNN Protest Against Sanitizing War
by Camille Sauvé Thursday March 27, 2003 at 09:46 AM: The imagery you will see even if they show it on TV is nothing compared to pain and suffering inflicted on Iraq for the past 24 years by the man who was supposed to be leading them. The US Military does not knowingly inflict pain and suffering on noncombatants, and I resent the implication in this article that it does.

I only wish I had taken part in this demonstration. I was so embarrassed by the war coverage, especially FOX network and MSNBC. They are the worst cable companys in the world!!!!!!!. Touting up the saddam statue coming down as the end of the war, I looked at my husband and said---ARE THEY CRAZY???----Its just begining.. What is wrong with you guys, doesnt anybody know anything down there?. Lets see the war coverage now as you did in the beginning big opening screen WAR IN IRAQ SPECIAL COVERAGE with our guys being blown to bits a few at a time. a view of the real world, as we the people knew it was going to be like , at least anyone with an ounce of common sence. I thought everybody in medias brain flew south . Well hold on to your hats because we are the new occupiers of the modern babylon , and as nostradamus says, this war will slap some sence into the senceless lady (the US--statue of liberty) after all the line up for the armaggedon is at the euphrates, what would an armageddon be without the worlds superpower.
