Al Jazeera has just launched an english website devoted to covering the iraqi war. Check it out at: http://english.aljazeera.net/
Al Jazeera has just launched an english website devoted to covering the iraqi war.
http://english.aljazeera.net/
Please pass this on.
Al Jazeera has more reporters in Iraq than any other news organization - a fact that soon becomes apparent upon reading the articles.
If there were just one website to get news on the war, this is undoubtedly it!
p.s. Due to the ballooning demand for Al Jazeera's news, the site can be slow to access. But be patient as it's well worth the wait.

I get a not found message when I try to go to english.aljazeera.net.
Is anyone else able to see it?
I think my ISP may be blocking it. I'm using Time/Warner Roadrunner.

Hackers Strike Al Jazeera
By Internetweek.com
The Web site of the Arab news organization Al Jazeera has faced hacker attacks and technical glitches in its attempts to launch an English-language edition, according to reports.
The site went live Monday but was quickly hit with denial-of-service attacks, along with the Arabic-language version of Al Jazeera, reports said.
Staff was unable to update the English site for four hours Tuesday, reports said.
The Qatar-based network faced criticism in the West for airing messages from Osama bin Laden and, more recently, broadcasting Iraqi footage of U.S. prisoners of war and war dead.

Seems like you can't even ping the site. It's as if DNS cannot resolve the site name to the IP address. Can anyone outside the US ping the site and determine the IP address?
ping english.aljazeera.net
ping english.aljazeera.net

I'm in South Africa.
If so many of us can't see it, it probably means this is a denial of service attack directed at Al Jazeera's servers.
It's either "patriotic" Americans or some US government branch (my guess).
So much for freedom of the press.
The government is desperate to keep the truth from coming out (that we have killed hundreds of civilians -- numbers unknown). Thus, they've attacked the one main news group with more access to Iraq than any other news group (perhaps combined).
By keeping the dead Iraqi civilians safely out of the sight of average Americans who stick to CNN, the state guarantees that no serious moral opposition to the war amongst mainstream Americans will emerge.
Without accurate, unbiased information, can a true democracy be possible? Are the Americans whom we are told support this war truly informed of reality? How many of them have actually seen an Iraqi and would still consider bombing them for really no reason whatsoever?
The Police (One world, not three):
"One world is enough for all of us ... By pretending your a different world from me, I shed my responsibility..."

Pre-emptive sensorship?
why is it that CIA is not allowing us to read news from al jazeera? is it because by doing so we would know the facts? would we stop calling "illegal" scuds the legal Al Fatah missiles? Is it because we would know there is no uprising? the truth is the worst enemy of the liars.
Mr. Patriot, you must have a direct connection to The Truth. I suspect, though, it's more The Truth that comes from Washington by way of Fox News. So if you are formulating (excuse the big word) your opinions on what you see on TV, remember that there's a chance TV isn't telling you everything. Be mindful that the TV news is embedded in only the US forces and gets all other news from what the Pentagon wants to tell them.
I think we Americans should have the opportunity to judge for ourselves what the truth is, like a jury which must decide what they will believe and what they won't. My guess is that you have decided only to believe what Uncle Sam says. So you've abrogated (sorry) your right as an American to be truly informed. I feel sorry for you, and I hope to hell you're in the minority when it's time to vote.

Its as much the FBI and NSA as the CIA. I doubt they are directly hacking but they sure are not investigating a clear violation of US law. In that sense they are just as guilty as if they were hacking (and they know this since this is a usual way for a government to bring a site down by encouraging third party hacking and then ignoring legal claims against the computers used in the hacking)
Beside the BRAVE Al Jazeera, does anyone know any other reliable sources than the Patriotic CNN, MSNBC and the Zionistic FOX News??????
Are WE all sick N tired of their FEEDED coverage??????

Well, i am in Edinburgh, Scotland, UK and I can access English.aljazeera.net but for some reason it's in Arabic.... Anybody got an explanation for this ??
its still in arabic, except for the pictures and useless info like help and jobs, etc. Will this change? Anyone know the problem?
To All Truth-Seekers
The days of American media domination is clearly numbered.
" Shock and Awe", "Regime Change" etc
The people who are demonstrably in shock and awe today are the media moguls at CNN, Fox etc and all their cohorts with their dark and sinister agenda. No longer would the world be subjected to a deluge of propaganda, distortion and outright fabrication in a desperate effort to make world opinion favourable to American and Isreal's interests.
As Aljazeera and other independent media outlets bring the truth and horrors of this unjust war to the Americans and the world at large, the dim-witted imbecile Texan cowboy now inhabiting the White House may well have set in motions events of far-reaching implications which could ultimately engineer, unwittingly of course, regime change in LONDON and in other corrupt and dictatorial regimes in the Arab world.
Yes there would be an UPRISING. Not in Basra or Baghdad though but in Cairo, Amman, Riyadh, Kuwait and eventually culminating in an ignominous resignation from Downing Street, LONDON.

I can bring up http://english.aljazeera.net so the DNS is there, but its in Arabic still. I'm in Singapore. Just keep trying, I guess...
Someone passed me this online newspaper link from Saudi Arabia. Its pretty good and worth a look. Seems more balanced, but still with a western slant as many of the journalists are british. But it has some really well written articles, some quite biting and critical.

Here is another source of info about the war. It's centered in military operations. It seems far more accurate than the Pentagon briefings. It's based on Russian inteligence services (sats, intercepted communications...) and is updated daily.

yes , i am also unable to find english sight. whats the problem i dont know.
How come one of the New York Time's reports has already accessed the Web and wrote an article about it. Here from Qatar each time I try it tells me I am not authorized to access this web site!!!
CIA and its affiliated overt and covert civilian technology companies, under the supervision of National Security Agency (NSA) are attacking the Al Jazeraa English site to keep a tight lid on the real news. The US goverment believes democracy and freedom of press as long as their interests are fully served by their willing servants and also beneficiaries in the press, things turn pretty ugly very quick if someone decides to speak the truth. Welcome to the AmeriKKKan style values.
WAR IS PEACE - FREEDOM IS SLAVERY - IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH
I think that this quote from George Orwell sums up the situation.
http://www.aeronautics.ru/
Every link from this site is dead.
The arabnews site looks like an extension of CNN, that's why we can still access it.
It seems that every English link that has independant coverage of 'GW II' (Gulf War II - or - George Double-ya Two) is down. Formulate your own opinion.
Never stop asking questions,

I think its wrong to judge America. There is too much good for that.
We should think the things behind the leaders and what actually makes them do things like that.
Mr. Bush is acting like a Roman emperor. It might be a good idea for a while. But remember the past!
Only thing there behind is a passion to get the world power and OIL resources.
They are not liberating Iraq. They are going to rally the country and act like colonists there.

I tried the Al-Jazeera english site, and got a page saying I wasn't authorized to see it. Obviously the work of hackers.
There is a translation site that you can open, then select a translation of http://www.al-jazeera.com and you'll see just the one page. To see others, open them, and pass the url to the translation site (tedious). I found the arab translation site by searching Google on Al-Jazeera English website

Its obvious that the longer we cant access the english site the clearer it is that its a deliberate act by these f*****g 'liberators'. Well it can only mean one thing, these people are desperate to shut out the truth and thinking that the denial of service is actually helping the coalition. Well guess a again a*****e! embeded reporters are not much help either! we see thru these BS and the support for Iraq grows by the day. If Bush can go fishing with his family while his soldiers do the dying for him that explains a whole lot doesnt it?
Unable to access also. I don't support the war! I guess its time to start learning Arabic.

Im usinng Time Warner, road runner.. and i get the message: You are not authorized to view this page. Are they blocking the Aljazeera english site?
They say unknown hackers knocked this site off as soon as it came up. Don't you think it's obvious who did this? God forbid we should be able to learn from sources other than government approved ones. Welcome to the land of the free.

I have little or no trust of the Arab corporate media al-Jazeera just as I have little or no trust in our own corporate media. Both sides have their own agenda to push.
--"they are the most one-sided journalists I have ever read"
Shouldn't that read "they are the most one-sided journalists I have NEVER read"?
The US government has apparently shut down the english version of Al Jazeera because they are showing the civilian casualties of the war. This is disgusting.

I am an American and proud after watching my father and sister killed by Sadams regime during the gulf war. my Mother was beaten for accepting water from a Us soldier Sadams regime shut down water supply to our homes for many days, Food was scarce and death surely came to all if we did not obey his comands. I'm free and safe from his regime now, and thankfull for it. So many civiliens in Iraq are scared they are told what to do, Sadam feels no sorrow for the deaths of the Civilians, He wants control, those that don't support Sadam , there life ends in death, Support America. So much goes on that so many don't understand I lived it, I have seen the women hang, The children burned by Chemicals, and the men shot infront of there familys. This is no way to live.. Yes civilians in this war have died that is in any war. Death comes with war, Please if only those that are against understood what the regime does. I lost a sister a father and my Mother bears scars that remind us of the pain and death everyday. This man needs removed and my people deserve freedom . I thank Bush and Blair. Tell me if america was ran this way wouldn't you pray for someone to help you? Wouldn't you want someone to help? Your all fast to judge because you have never been there nor have you seen someone killed because they don't agree with A president. A Us Marine carried my Mother and took my hand . His smile made my mother cry, For she knew that if it wasn't for that Us Marine We would not be alive and free today... Thank you
What has this got to do with accessing al Jazeera? Your bait smells fishy to me.
Question
Are These sites being monitored by any authority and if so by who.If affimative your comments would be appreciated.

due to the vast knowledge i am sure you all possess about the inner workings of both the Iraqi and the Coalition machines, you should hold onto these drastically ridiculous sentiments about how America is wrong and how Saddam is your mother's virginal guardian angel, and keep propagating your ignorant rants. that would make me happy for one.
keep your uninformed crap to yourself. you can blame everything on the CIA, but then again, all it takes is for them to save you from one almost-hijacked plane, and you are forever unknowingly in their debt. i dont claim to know anything other than what the western media tells me. and thus, i dont voice my opinion. take heed, or move to france.

Way to go. Whenever we conservative trolls don't have anything intelligent to say, we can always resort to the trusty "if you don't like it, move." Great job!
You say that this war is to free the Iraqi people, well I guess the Palistinians are those who are in need of freedom as soon as possible, so I don't see freedom of the iraqi is the reason her at all..
yah so it says im not authorized to view it waht's up with that???
I am deeply disturbed by the Bush administration's attempts to cover it's activities in Iraq. I didn't vote for Bush and I don't support his holocaust.

hey al jazeera one mother fucker bush want to close this site or u all stop.bullshet we all r with u,present all news of war and know all people of the world, how kind of ashole bush and blear
Even I have not been able to log on to the Al-Jazeera English website. I get a screen stating that I am not authorised to view the page. I am sure its the great USA which decides who should see which page.
i think its realy unfare to allow us media to broadcast when its not the truth - us should not block any other
news sites - us do good things but this time they have
pushed it too far - many people around the world are
very angry with the us because they dont help people or other countries in real need - they just lend money via the IMF then double the repayment so in the end they get stuck in a cycle of deception us needs to rethink how they are seen around the world and pull back from international affers wich they have no real concern in - mr bush will bring the whole world to dispare and hatred - and for mr Blair is should stop thinking his winstone churchill - lots of muslims and normal people think this whole thing is in support for israel super state - i know saddam is bad but let the arabs deal with him - thanks !!!!!!!!!

very angry with the us because they dont help people or other countries in real need - they just lend money via the IMF then double the repayment so in the end they get stuck in a cycle of deception us needs to rethink how they are seen around the world and pull back from international affers wich they have no real concern in - mr bush will bring the whole world to dispare and hatred - and for mr Blair is should stop thinking his winstone churchill - lots of muslims and normal people think this whole thing is in support for israel super state - i know saddam is bad but let the arabs deal with him - thanks !!!!!!!!!

I need to have multi -sided approach on the war and middle eastern issues.. In fact, I need to have it from a source that belongs to the area..
Not just the Western view, which is from a Western window... I need to have it from a local channel. No thanks, CNN, Fox News, MsNBC you are not enough for me.. For to keep my brain unwashed, I need to have several approaches...
THAT IS THE POINT!!!!!
YOU ARE OBLIGED TO GIVE ME MY SITE BACK!!
THANK YOU!!!!
AND IT IS YOUR CITIZEN RESPONSIBILITY NOT TO HACK IT!!!!!

Yes, folks. If you want to see things from the other side then it would be a good thing to learn Arabic.
I am also on Time/Warner Roadrunner, and I can't see the english al-jazeera site. I certainly hope the surver wouldn't try to censor my veiwing of this site, while still allowing thousands of porno sites.
When I attempt to access english.aljazeera.net I also receive a message that access is forbidden. Until I read that others had the same problem, I thought it might be my ISP, but now think it's another hacker method of denying access.
Our men and women in the services are giving their lives to protect our freedoms and the freedoms of those in Iraq, as they did in the past in WWII, in Korea, Viet Nam, and Yugoslavia and Afghanistan. These hackers deny one of our most important freedoms, substituting it with the totalitarian arrogance of deciding what websites and views we can access. They are no different than Saddam's agents of terror and, like them, seek to limit our freedoms. The ultimate insult, irony and treason was directing traffic to an image of the American flag.
As you can see, I am a low-key, un-opinionated person. It ain't your ISP, it's the jerks. --Dave Baer

This message is generated from the web server software at the Al Jazeera end of things. They've obviously temporarily turned off our access, hence the unauthorized messages, because when the site comes up, the denial of service attacks bring it staight down.
Where the CIA come into this, my skeptical athiest brain just can't comprehend. Some of you guys have been watching the X-Files too much. All it would take is for one of about 10million hackers around the world, with his own agenda and a with a fat internet pipe to do this kind of attack.
I'm British, and didn't support the war. But as visual evidence what the Baath party have been getting up to for years begins to come out. I'm proud to be from one of only a few countries who were bold to move to put an end to Sadam's brutal regime.
I do with I could get at Al Jazeera's english sight though.

One thing is for certain: After the English Al-Jazeera site went online it was blocked FOR DAYS (see all the postings above if you don't believe it). Interestingly it didn't give the message that the site is not available, but it gave the message that access is denied. This hints at some man-made obstacle. It sure didn't come from Al-Jazeera itself ...
Does anyone have a good link to a free arabic html translator? I have tried dozens and can't find any that work. The only one that does is Areeb but they charge $30.00 a month.
If anyone has a free link could you please post it. Even if you have to put in individual sentences that would suffice.
