I get a not found message when I try to go to english.aljazeera.net.

Is anyone else able to see it?

I think my ISP may be blocking it. I'm using Time/Warner Roadrunner.

The site went live Monday but was quickly hit with denial-of-service attacks, along with the Arabic-language version of Al Jazeera, reports said.

Staff was unable to update the English site for four hours Tuesday, reports said.

The Qatar-based network faced criticism in the West for airing messages from Osama bin Laden and, more recently, broadcasting Iraqi footage of U.S. prisoners of war and war dead.

Seems like you can't even ping the site. It's as if DNS cannot resolve the site name to the IP address. Can anyone outside the US ping the site and determine the IP address?

If so many of us can't see it, it probably means this is a denial of service attack directed at Al Jazeera's servers.

It's either "patriotic" Americans or some US government branch (my guess).

Its as much the FBI and NSA as the CIA. I doubt they are directly hacking but they sure are not investigating a clear violation of US law. Someone passed me this online newspaper link from Saudi Arabia. Its pretty good and worth a look. Seems more balanced, but still with a western slant as many of the journalists are british. But it has some really well written articles, some quite biting and critical.

There is a translation site that you can open, then select a translation of http://www.al-jazeera.com and you'll see just the one page. To see others, open them, and pass the url to the translation site (tedious). I found the arab translation site by searching Google on Al-Jazeera English website

I also noted on a Google page that the English site does not open until mid-April, who's telling the truth ! Who knows.

Even I have not been able to log on to the Al-Jazeera English website. I get a screen stating that I am not authorised to view the page. I am sure its the great USA which decides who should see which page.

This message is generated from the web server software at the Al Jazeera end of things. They've obviously temporarily turned off our access, hence the unauthorized messages, because when the site comes up, the denial of service attacks bring it staight down.

Where the CIA come into this, my skeptical athiest brain just can't comprehend. Some of you guys have been watching the X-Files too much. All it would take is for one of about 10million hackers around the world, with his own agenda and a with a fat internet pipe to do this kind of attack.

One thing is for certain: After the English Al-Jazeera site went online it was blocked FOR DAYS (see all the postings above if you don't believe it). Interestingly it didn't give the message that the site is not available, but it gave the message that access is denied. This hints at some man-made obstacle. It sure didn't come from Al-Jazeera itself ...

Does anyone have a good link to a free arabic html translator? I have tried dozens and can't find any that work. The only one that does is Areeb but they charge $30.00 a month.

If anyone has a free link could you please post it. Even if you have to put in individual sentences that would suffice.
