TACTICS

by t-bird
We need to create a website of tactics.
If we could figure out the route of police transport busses, here's what we could do:

1) Identify an intersection that is approximately one-third of the distance between the mass arrest location and the bus destination. I think that distance is the best because it is probably a good distance from where the arrest is, but not too far for some of the cops to leave the arrest and go to the bus.

2) As soon as the bus gets to that intersection, a group bursts in front of it and blocks it. Soon after that, other demonstrators block the back and a few block the sides.

3) Have someone phone either in the bus or in the bus blockade make a phone call to a protestor at the mass arrest location and inform them that the bus has been successfully stopped. Imagine the joy and encouragement that the protestors will feel when they hear the good news!

We really need to make a website that contains all sorts of tactics and strategies on simulated city areas (not a city-specific website, but one that will benefit those in SF, LA, NY, DC, Portland, anywhere!).

Use aerial views of individual intersections and then also of wider areas that encompass several intersections (up to 40), with various tactics and possibilities for shutting down individual intersections with means of escape if necessary.

I'm in full support of any action that prevents business from happening as usual, but I have some general questions for us:

1. How do we assess what is effective? How do we define effective?
2. As time goes on, how do we keep direct actions from penalizing working-class folks? How do we build effective long-term alliances?
3. After 911 we were a peace & justice movement. Now all I see is "peace." How do we add justice back into the strategy?

The issue with posting possible tactics and actions that would hinder police activity, is that indymedia is not only frequented by activists...you can be sure that these websites are commonplace for police to gather intelligence about our movement. It's already happened in Portland, and we're to the point of not being able to post messages with any detail of the event (if involving illegal activity (civil disobedience and targeting of buildings)), we've become vauge and suspicious, and it's horrid. Word of mouth is good, but we're not so far advanced as to be that connected.

Try blocking the bus with cops and they will get off and kick your ass.

If we constantly morph our tactics to keep cops and authorities off guard and spread their resources as much as possible w/o wearing ourselves down.

Some ideas...

-Stop blocking downtown SF and invade the local army/air force bases.

-Blockade/invade news organizations.

-Everyone on bicycles!

-Dress in suits.

-Bring shields for protection. (made from 1/2 water barrels or similar).

-invade the airport!

-Park cars on the bridges w/ 'No War' written on them.

...I'm sure you can think of more as well.

San Francisco, YOU FUCKING ROCK!!

I agree. This country idolizes San Fran for what you're doing! You are today's Berkley of the 60's. NYC is planning its first city wide shut down this thursday. and who fucking knows what DC is doing. Keep it up!!
In solidarity,
