Jerry still Stands!

by Amy
Jerry is still standing, although a bit shorter now.
The ancient old growth redwood "Jerry" that Remedy occupied for nearly 1 year is still alive and standing despite reports it was felled. Climber Eric managed to removed the very brave tree sitter, that had taken Remedy's place, from the very top of the tree. The sitter told me she tried to get as far up the tree as possible and only relinqueshed to Eric when she heard the branches she was on begin to break. Eric said he would call it suicide if she fell. Eric cut one of the main stems of Jerry but he left a thin spire with some greenery and a perfect flat spot for a new platform and sitter which is already in place. He also managed to leave the fern garden which has been a favorite of local sitters because it is full of life including some wandering salamander's according to Remedy. Although the tree is less grand now it is still and beautiful work of nature and a valuable addition to the biodiversity of Freshwater watershed. It is still worth every bit of effort the defenders put forth. The defenders have stayed strong through the battle, with the rally this past weekend breathing new life into the struggle. Help is still needed as we expect more climbers this week. People and supplies are greatly appreciated. You can find the tree sits easily just east of Eureka on Greenwood Heights Rd. Any large tree with a huge orange number painted on it starting about 1 mile up is likely to have a sitter in it. Please come and help the residents and defenders save our forest from the rampant over-cutting, silt producing corruption that is MAXXAM/Pacific Lumber.
We are 100% volunteer and depend on your participation to sustain our efforts!
