Flag-Head Cops (M22)

by B. Marsh (subbrian3 [at] yahoo.com)
2 photos of SFPD Cops wearing American Flag bandannas on their heads.

These guys drove up with an SFPD convoy (Market Street between 6th and 7th). Seemed like they got a kick out of wearing the flag while they helped their gang violate constitutional rights.

The interesting thing about these pictures to me is that the cops wearing flags are basically making a political statement, something along the lines of "we are the REAL Americans". While they have every right to do that off the job, it is unprofessional of them to do it in the context of enforcing the law. Their job is to be neutral enforcers of existing laws without regard to the perceived message of the civil disobeyers.

I know that many of the people who participate in this site have already concluded that the police as a whole have taken sides in this issue, or that they are always just waiting for a moment to unleash their brutality on civilians. And I agree that there are some cops who deserve this reputation, but I think most of them are doing the job they were trained to do. They enforce the system, and I'm not surprised that they're arresting people who are trying to throw a wrench in the works. It is what I expect them to do. I also expect them (laugh if you like) to try to limit the use of force and to maintain a reasonable semblance of neutrality, and I am disappointed when they don't. Plus they look like punks (in the bad sense).

Wow. And the Chronicle accuses US of provoking the cops?!?! These pictures make it quite obvious that the pigs get off on antagonizing and hurting people who disagree with them. What a bunch of fucking morons.

It's really smart of the ruling class to arm these dimwits...They are neither educated nor smart enough to think for themselves, and they unquestioningly obey their masters' orders. It's really sad how eager they are to be lap dogs for the rich. It would be amusing if it wasn't so sad.

These bandanas are a clear violation of the police dress code and hopefully they will be cited. I suggest whoever is attending the Board of Supervisors' meeting tell the supervisors of this illegal bandana act. I also suggest you tell them that above and beyond the protests, which are wonderful and necessary, that when any department becomes too expensive, that department's budget is cut and a sufficient number of its employees are fired so that it is within budget and its budget does not disrupt the budgets of the other departments. We, the people of San Francisco, cannot afford to pay the SF police the high wages they make, and their very high overtime of $70 per hour, as well as their expensive and extensive equipment. The sooner the police department is cut down to affordable size, the better. We do not need and cannot afford 2200 police in this city of 750,000 people. The police need to get a real job and learn to work for a living.

Wearing the flag is also a violation of the US Flag Code. Not that anyone cares anymore.

... a bunch of "ragheads" now?
by Jym
=v= Yep, they're definitely gang members. Prop 21 (California's "jails, not schools" initiative) defines this many people wearing distinctive insignia or engaging in illegal activity to be a gang. They're doing both.
