Using whatever methods we choose (anonymously calling the media, calling city hall, calling local city politicians, announcing at various city meetings, spray painting), we should communicate to city officials that IF THE COPS CONTINUE TO BRUTALIZE PEACEFUL PROTESTERS--OUR SISTERS AND BROTHERS IN THE STRUGGLE FOR PEACE--AND OTHER INNOCENT VICTIMS, WE WILL (according to our own choosing and self-initiative) COMMIT 'CD/DA' AGAINST CORPORATE PROPERTY--especially plate glass windows!
Maybe if the corporations and the corporate merchants (major department stores, etc) have to suffer the consequences of police brutality against our spiritual sisters and brothers, those corporate officers/managers or department store executive managers will put pressure on the city to stop their gangster cops’ brutal rogue behavior.
Nothing I like better to see than the cops making a protester kiss that asphalt!! Go SFPD!!!!!
i don't think there are any israeli bulldozers. They get American bulldozers from you, IB--for free.
Wow,man, like, yo're REALLY takin' i to THE MAN by breaking some small business owner's windows!
Why don't you take it to D.C. and break shit there-where the people you'd attack are actually in suport of the war- instead of fucking up newsracks and garbage cans in good ol' anti-war San Fran?
Answer me that, nitwit/fuckhead!

Had she no affinity group? Did none of the other peace protestors defend her against this aggression?
What about the other cops standing around? Are none of them interested in law and order? Are they too chickenshit to arrest their "colleagues" for assault?
Protestors have to learn to "un-arrest" each other when faced with violence like this.
My sympathy and soldiarity go out to this woman. If I'm called for jury duty you can be sure that I'm going to make sure that if it comes to a monetary punishment for the city it'll be huge. Even better would be a criminal prosecution of the officers involved for their crime.

standing on street corners isn't going to stop the war. keeping people from getting to their jobs isn't going to stop the war. breaking windows or other property isn't going to stop war. you know what you should do? go smash some government buildings. stop buyying gas. write to your congress people. VOTE. i bet half of the people out on the street protesting didn't even vote for the leadership in this country. don't complain if you didn't open your mouth in the first place.

I bet more than half the people who voted didn't even vote for the leadership in this country.
Seriously, though, should somebody wait until next November to be able to vote before joining a protest? Um, no, of course not, they should join now.

Standing on street corners IS going to stop the war. Standing in the street IS going to stop the war. Complacency, passivity, and feeling too overwhelmed to do anything is NOT.
Gee, you were late to work? What are you complaining about??? Was your work BOMBED when you got there? Was your home BOMBED when you got there? Stand up for peace and act like people matter!

Seriously though, all of this stopping traffic and so on and so forth is getting a bit wearisome. Its not like it isn't a good thing, but I'm not sure if it will actually affect anything in time. The powers fueling this war and our nazi president are not city transportation or city commerce. True, many corporate buildings are in SF, but we haven't stopped them... we've just stopped traffic. So if you're called to march, then march. Personally though, I think we should fuck up each and every McDonalds, Wal-Mart, Exxon, Mobil, Nat'l Guard Armory, and any other gov building. They aren't listening. The media isn't listening. Let's use this momentum to kill the corporations that got us into this mess.
That is, every one of those in the whole country.
Why don't you try to protest in downtown Bagdad.
Too bad there wasn't 10,000 police there to arrest everyone of you losers.
Right on. What a bunch of 'NUMB NUT' LOSERS!!!!
MOST probably have NO idea what they're actually doing. SAD< SAD< SAD

In Georgia, we're getting a lot of inspiration from what you guys are doing, so ignore the idiots who propose to speak for "middle America". Keep up the good work, ya'll.
I just recently lived in Georgia, so I know a few things about that place, too. It wouldn't surprise me if you were in the Atlanta area or if you were a student at UGA. Prove me wrong. Most of the people outside those two areas are pro-American.
I have been to a few anti war protests and I don't support the war either. I have also heard a lot of people telling me that we need to support our troops and be behind this war. Well, if you ever said something to that effect, listen up. It's not that we don't support our troops, or that we are anti American. I love this country as much as the next guy. What we are protesting is that people are dying for no reason but the interests of major corporations and a falsly elected president. We don't want people to die. Not Americans, not Iraqis, not ANYONE!!!! Saddam is a madman, but he does not have weapons of mass destruction! even if he did, his missles suck so bad, he could only lob it as far as Kwait. As for his "terrorist ties" , What about the terrorist ties that Bush has? Don't be suasored into believing that this war is good or right. No war is good or right. Bush claims that what we are trying to do is eliminate terrorism. What we are doing is provoking it. Violence begets violence. Peace can never be the outcome of war. By protesting, we are excersising our 1st amendment - our most basic of freedoms. If we let Bush and his cohorts continue to bomb innocent countries and take away our freedoms in order to secure "National Security", we won't have a 1st amendment left and this will no longer be a democracy. 80% of the world is against this war, even if their governments have sold out to the US. We need to remember what it really means to be an American. We need to grow up as a country and start thinking for ourselves instead having someone on television telling us what to think.
I live in the S.F. Bay Area, and I'm pro-American. I'm also pro-Iraqi, pro-Italian, pro-Luxembourgean, pro-Malwaian, and a host of others. That's why I've been at the protests. It depends where you draw the lines. If by "pro-American" you meant people that implicitly support a system of capital based upon the centuries-old oppression, subjugation, and elimination of smaller and less powerful nations, ethnic groups, religions, and ideologies by not protesting and attempting to put a halt to the atrocities commited in their names, you'd be right. If you meant staunch defenders of liberty, peace, democratic choice, equality, and yes, the dreaded f-word, freedom, then I'd have to say that you were wrong.
I'm not trying to belittle your point of view. I just wish that you would question the facts and motivations fed to us by our leaders and corporate powers. If you did some open-minded research, and still came out without any empathy for the innocent Iraqis that we're bombing the hell out of so that we can somehow save them from Saddam, and still had no reservations surrounding the true motives behind our government's war in Iraq, at the very least I would congratulate you for trying to understand our viewpoint. As it is, empty phrases like "pro-American," and "real jobs" do little to sway me, convince me that you've ever spoken to a leftist, or that you even have a real point.

No entiendo a esa policia, es como la de Barcelona.
Si forman parte de la comunidad, deberían negarse a realizar esas cosas en contra de sus vecinos.
Sin violencia se llega más lejos. No a la Guerra.
The last wenesday 26 of march all the people of Barcelona turn off the lights at 22hours p.m. until 22h. 15´hours. This is an incredible act. The next wenesday 3 of april Barcelona come back the experience. Please repeat in San Francisco, or in another citys. NO A LA GUERRA
Excuse-me for my bad english. See you

If only 1/2 of the protestors vote, that is still better than the national average. If you expect voting to change the war, you must be prepared for 18 months of war. I am not. The voting system in this country precludes any voices other than those who are backed by money from speaking. So we take to the streets. As far as voting goes, I choose "third parties" in the hopes of eventually undermining the Republicans and their lackeys, the Democrats. If the Dems are not the opposition party, you need to look somewhere else. So I say, keep protesting, keeo it peaceful, block traffic and when you vote, vote to oppose the two parties. For now, I need to get back on the streets. Which streets? My streets.
She got what she ask for. Now she should go to jail for 90 days,.
I love peaceful people like you. May the spirit of peace within you be a light unto the nations.
there is noting more beautiful than someone standing up for what they believe in and being willing to face the unjust consequences, this girl, did so. when the cops touched her she let her body go limp facing all the cops brutality and verbal abuse. and in the end what she was doing was legal behavior, crossing a crossing a street along with the walk signal.
The photos do strongly suggest the girls were not about to break any laws, and yet the cops brutally and used excessive force to arrest them. This is probably a good strong case against the cops for abusing their power unprovoked. Do contact ACLU for their review and advice.
I can't believe that all those other people there wouldn't step in a help this poor woman when she was brutally attacked by the nazi storm trooper SFPD. I hope she sues the city for a bazillion dollars. She was obviously minding her own business when she was grabbed and fondled by these disgusting pigs. Keep the faith!
How can someone make a reasonable interpetation without all the facts. You can clearly see that the pictures are not all there by looking at the # in the captions.
Good Idea! Let's all go to Paris, where they know how to control riots! I love enlightened Europeans. They are so....old.
hell yeah - the french and germans and belgians and english should be a little enlightened. Large sections of their society have had to confront the colonial habits of their leaders.
Looking at yahoo.news feedback forum during the recent French car fires, there were dozens of people like you repeating back this meme about 'gay' France, impotent to fight back due to their liberal perspective, which the US had to 'save' in WWII ( um, not quite), and how their society is old and aging, and yesterday.
First of all, France + their colonial gov't forces killed 350,000 people in Algeria in the early 60s when Algerians tried to get their own nation-state back. That is an impressive stack of bodies, not that pro-life conservatives particularly care about the deaths of adults. Everyone with any historical knowledge at all knows that the europeans do not have to display their testosterone and killing ability any further- they've demonstrated that enough. there is nothing that the French and Germans and english should be doing more than cooking, designing clothes, painting and breeding dogs with neat hair.
Secondly, 'old europe'? That is just a mentally deficient argument economists make that a society needs to have a pyramid with lots of young people so that they can pay for the retirement of the old. Um... so who do they think will pay for the retirement of these young people later on. This is an argument that is easy to knock down. They rely upon expelling the young workers to another location or cutting them off some other way before they too need retirement, perhaps sending them to the colonies to fight and catch malaria.

obviously, a euro-peon
Hey, how can we teach the cops to go for us, join with us,??
violence is not the way,, ,,??

she was an upper caste female of prime egg-laying age and yet they managed to go after her. if she had been on a trip to a carribean island of recreational hiatus, and had been "abducted" her political correctness would have been verified and all three major networks would have broadcast the tragedy all over the world, 24 hours a day.
I'm a little tired of hearing Americans claim the moral high ground re colonies and empires etc.
I think you should bear in mind your own 19th century empire building which included wiping out indiginous populations for economic reasons (native americans) and aggressive stance towards neighbouring sovereign states (mexico) in order to expand the geographical extent of the empire. You were way behind Western Europe in abolishing slavery. Your continuing protectionist stance towards imports and failure to recognise the threat to the planet from pollution is more chauvanistic than even the French.
The US is a marvelous place but it is still far from perfect. Please remember this when taking cheap shots at european states.

Since when protesting is illegal??? Does anyone believe in the fairy tale where the goverment deeds are for your own good?? Bull shit!!!
See what is happening to the world... Wake up!!!!

I see pictures that don't tell much of a story. I see pictures of protesters that all seem relatively peaceful. I also see the poice mostly standing around monitoring and containing the demonstration;again relatively peaceful. For some reason they chose to detain 2 demonstrators. They are using force to do so, but a limited amount. Given that those same pictures of detnetion show many other bystanders, it's obvious is was not a lack of control and general outbreak of violence against all the demonstrators.
So the question is what really happened.

I've got some free, totally non-binding fashion advice for this young lady, and anyone else who still thinks waving signs and shouting is going to somehow reach people who, basically, have no souls: wear a damn suit to these things, and don't carry a bag. First the bag: I'm pretty sure the keystone kopps here are apprehending this potential terrorist for being in possesion of a backpack, so leave the rucksacks at home. If there were a LEGITIMATE, street level threat, backpack bombs would be high on the list of shit to watch for. As things are, I see no point in giving a bunch of underpaid borderline personality disorders something to raise an eyebrow over, especially given that most of them will either be bored or pissed off at pulling riot duty. Now, the suit: a matter of image: unwashed youths squaring off with some of Our Heroic Men In Uniform = bad to the average smoothe lobed mass-consumer. Watching the cops beat on a kid dressed like they are from the same income bracket is going to engage people's reflex driven little lizard brains much more readily than the anonymous suffering of some bloody hippy. Go to goodwill, and get an outfit; something cheap that can be thrown out if/when it becomes soaked in blood/urine/mace/bongwater etc. A matching hat is also nice.
Good luck out there, regardless.
