Damn great shot!
the marching band attracted many enthusiastic marchers and dancers, and, as noted, a huge contingency of cops. while keeping to the sidewalks, there was no reason for arrest, it was just a brass-accompanied peaceful protest. but why did they fade out so soon, with so many supporters behind them, to go to a bar? "stop following us!" they said. from there, the solidarity was scattered to another diaspora crosswalk showdown with the preverbial dread-head arrest. Perhaps next time, recognize that with such a gorgeous turbaned tuba player, you will be followed, and have a plan of where to march to. peace

"they" didn't say that...some members (who had been playing all day and wanted some alone time and a drink) said that, some said other things. That was my 3rd full day of protest. I personally could've played a bit longer, but I saw cops jump people, even bystanders on the sidewalk, for no fucking reason, and I was holding a delicate musical instrument and getting creeped out. The cops had been insane everyday, especially Friday, totally insane. They and their ignoble tactics have no place in a just and free society. That is a different topic, though. I loved that my band-mates made it out, and I wanted to keep going, but eventually people want to go home, just like you did eventually. What if you weren't in the mood to be followed home not only by a crowd of people but flanked by 50 dumb-ass jack-ass cops? Understand. We did march. I went out again later in the middle of the Indymedia Videofest in Delores Park, out of a sense of restlessness. Thanks for your support though; I'll pass on the special cat-calls to Jonathon, the turbaned sousaphonist.

the band did what it could, then it moved on, or was forced on, by the 50 or so cops that had attached themselves to the musicians. what exactly did you have in mind for this plan, they were "supposed" to have had?
