anatomy of a set up-M21 Hayes and Larkin/Polk

photos start at 5pm rally at market st. march starts down market towards civic center. cops repeatedly tell marchers that if they stay on the sidewalk they will not be arrested. marchers stay on the sidewalk. cops block path at market and larkin with motorcycles so marchers go down hayes towards polk. marchers are on the north side of the street approaching the civic auditorium. a number of large trucks are parked on the sidewalk unloading. marchers start to cross to sidewalk on south side of hayes. a few remain on that side. cops corral marchers from behind and cops appear at hayes and larkin to box marchers in. warning to disperse is never issued by police. marchers to this point have complied with all police directives. cops then arrest everyone gathered on the sidewalk between polk and larkin. i was personally unlawfully detained from 6 pm friday to 4:30 am this morning (saturday) for disobeying a police officer and walking on the roadway. my wife and i at no point were ever on the roadway as we took care to follow police directives to avoid arrest. be forwarned at the present time you may be detained by police on this pretext if they are of a mind to remove unsightly protesters from the view of disturbed passers-by (or rob morse).
