Freshwater Resident Arrested
3.18.03

In this image a local activist is taken away by Humboldt Sheriffs Dept. personal. This man grew up in Freshwater. When a reporter from a local paper asked him why he locked-down at the base of a tree the MAXXAM Corporation planned to cut that day? He answered, “I grew up here! I used to ride my BMX bike through trails in these woods, but now it is mostly all clearcuts.”
This photograph was taken on the Greenwood Heights Road in full accordance with the boundaries set forth by law enforcement.

3.18.03

In this image an activist named Annapurna is being lowered from a tree named Robin. Her hands are in traditional handcuffs, her bare feet are ‘ziptied’ and this photograph shows that Climber Eric, who is MAXXAM Corporations contracted muscle, also blindfolded her. He is the other person in the image. Blind-folding someone against his or her own will anywhere, especially 150 feet up in a redwood tree is the act of a vigilante. This image was taken from a county road, well within the bounds set by the Humboldt Sheriffs Dept. for the large group of non-violent protesters present.

MAXXAM Corporation Makin’ the Bacon
3.20.03b

In this image members of the Eureka Police Dept. (out of their jurisdiction) and members of the Humboldt County Sheriffs Dept. pig out on free lunch provided by Mr. Charles Hurwitz (Texas based MAXXAM’s CEO.) Ironically about 15 feet to the right of the soft drink cooler in this image is a port-o-potty supplied for the tax-payer funded sheriffs and the MAXXAM contracted climbing/arresting personal. Law enforcement refused to let the legally protesting taxpayers use this bathroom. Let’s hope MAXXAM Corporation supplied the port-o-potty, not the taxpayers.

MAXXAM’s 2nd Try. Watching Amnity in ‘Jerry’
3.20.03

In this image members of the Humboldt Sheriffs Dept. and members of the Eureka Police Dept. watch as the next activist to live in Remedy’s’ former tree ‘Jerry’ is ripped out of her perch by contract climber Eric. A non-violent protestor keeps vigil in the fore-ground as law enforcement personal enjoy being “on taxpayer salary.” The blue uniforms are Eureka Police, some with Tasers strapped to their legs below their service weapon. The green uniforms are Humboldt Sheriffs Dept. personnel. Further down the hill, the California Highway State Patrol (in a debonair Royal Blue uniform) are actually doing real traffic control and being pretty polite as well. From my legally standing on the edge of a county road viewpoint, I could count as many as 42-law enforcement personal at any time. All this at the Californian taxpayer expense, as a private contractor makes a ‘citizen’s arrest” for an absentee Texan landlord. All these police away from the real crime in the community (rampant crystal meth, A teenage girl in the town of Fortuna recently died of an illegal pharmaceutical overdose, last week their was an armed robbery at the Broadway Theatre in Eureka.) It seems like a huge waste of resources to have all these officers idling here in Freshwater watching a tree-sitter extraction like it was a Raiders verses 49ers game. On the eve of an oil war, I overheard a protester say to law enforcement, “you guys should carpool.”

The tree named Jerry is still standing tall and occupied by a Forest Defender as of 3.21.03 6pm.
How many tax dollars have been wasted? It seems the activist have more heart than the corporations have thugs.
