Hundreds Meditate in Opposition to War

by Faith Fuller (bpf [at] bpf.org)
The Buddhist Peace Fellowship provides a refuge in San Francisco outdoor plaza for those who want to demonstrate in silence, Friday and Saturday
For those who wish to come into San Francisco in the next few days, and are looking for a refuge, the Buddhist Peace Fellowship will have a large presence in the Civic Center Plaza on the lawn :

Meditation Vigil at SF Civic Center
All day Friday March 21, and Saturday, March 22 beginning at 7:00 AM
As we did Thursday, we will be sitting with hundreds of meditators in silence on the lawn at Polk and McAllister to demonstrate opposition to this war, in a public manner, in a safe place. The Civic Center
plaza will also serve as a home-base for those who want to move through the city and engage in various nonviolent peacekeeping activities, including the two options listed below. For more
information call 510-655-6169.

Distribute Nonviolence Leaflets and Practice Active Peacemaking
BPF is committed to working for social change through non-violent means; please join us in spreading the voice of peace in the midst of
this challenging and volatile scene. We will be wearing white armbands and handing out nonviolence leaflets throughout the day (please see
the website at http://www.bpf.org for a reproducible copy of this leaflet).

Intervene to help calm confrontational situations
Some of us may also choose to intervene to help calm or defuse or divert tense or confrontational situations, to help avert violence.
This was very effective and inspiring on Thursday, March 20th. Rita Archibald will be on hand to train anyone who would like instruction.
Please see http://www.bpf.org for Suggestions for Reducing Verbal or Physical Violence at Protests.

We, the legitimately elected government of the most noble power ever to have existed on Earth, thank you for making sure we can go about our good work without suffering many losses.

We thank you for the fact that not a single U.S. government official, diplomat or business person has been assassinated.

We thank you for the fact that not a single U.S. Embassy or Consulate or government or corporate building has been bombed or burned.

We thank you for the fact that not a single train carrying our troops or munitions has been derailed or blown up nor have any railroad tracks or bridges used for transporting our munitions been destroyed.

We thank you for the fact that not a single one of our oil (petrol) refineries or storage facilities has been attacked.

We could thank you for a lot more, but we trust that you can use your imagination!

Sincerely,

George W. Bush

P.S. Please pass this on! We want pacifists everwhere in the world to know how much thay are appreciated by the Masters of the World.

If all of us, the government and citizens/protesters, practiced mindfulness, compassion,a nd peace of heart-mind on a daily basis, there would be no wars, no need for protests.

Let's create this world or no war now by laying down our anger, our egos, and our bullhorns. Let's sit down in silence, being where we are, seeing that there is peace within us that will spread to the world if we let lit it be, and ourselves be.

Sitting in silence and being where we are is one of the greatest forms of protest, against war, inequality, and injustices. It is also one of the greatest forms of showing the solution, cultivating lovingkindness that is the basis of a peaceful and just world.

Please read about Thich Nhat Hanh's work to stop the Vietnam War and promote world peace through engaged Buddhism.
While innocent women and children are being slaughtered wholesale, stitting still and doing nothing to stop it is precicely and exactly the same as supporting it.

Get off you ass and into the street, or else their blood will be on your hands..

Experience the best of both worlds. Open your heart. Feel universal love and wish for all beings to be happy and free. Radiate love. Feel peace. Know your True Self. And take action to assist all the victims of ruthless trans-corporate fascism which is destroying the lives of billions of people, murdering people everywhere, and robbing the world's people of their freedoms.

Love everyone and do something useful and strategic to prevent the world from becoming a vale of tears even worse than it already is. Don't be an ostrich. Mindfulness is part of enlightenment. Don't just be mindful of your breath and your navel. Be mindful of the quality of life of all the beings on this planet. Take your enlightenment to the streets. Be love. Be peace. Be useful. Radiate goodwill and peace on your feet. Meditate with your eyes closed in the morning and nightime before and after you take useful action to avert global fascism and the demise of American democracy.
by wishing will not make it so
If wishes were horses, beggars would ride.

"If there is no struggle there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom and yet depreciate agitation…want crops without plowing up the ground, they want rain without thunder and lightening. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters…. Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will."

-- Frederick Douglass, 1857
