Report From 3/19 SF Rally

by Drew in SF
A quick summary of the beginning of the rally
I arrived at 5th and Market around 4:50. The crowd was already gathered on the north side of Market (most with signs) and there was a large truck parked on Market with amplification for the speakers. The crowd continually swelled until about 5:30. At one point a few people spoke including Danny Glover.

It seemed that momentum really swelled at one point, I guess critical mass was achieved. Then the crowd spilled onto Market (too large for the sidewalks to contain). People began marching southwest on Market (away from downtown). It was a very vocal crowd. I couldn't believe how many people showed up, I couldn't see the beginning or end in either direction!

It started to rain, but it looked like nobody cared. We marched all the way down to Valencia, making a lot of noise at intersections. Some people were trapped in their cars on Market but most seeked OK with it.

From Valencia, the crowd went all the way to 20th and turned east (left), then right on Mission. I followed it down to about 20th and it was still going strong when I left. It's still going right now.

Photos and video to follow.
