American woman peace activist killed by IDF bulldozer in Gaza

By Arnon Regular, Haaretz Correspondent, and Agencies

An American woman peace protester was killed Sunday by an IDF bulldozer, which ran her over during the demolition of a house at the Rafah refugee camp in the southern Gaza Strip. Another activist was wounded in the incident.

Rachel Corey, 23, from Olympia, Washington, was killed when she ran in front of the bulldozer to try to prevent it from destroying a house, doctors in Gaza said.

"Corey was killed in the al-Salam neighbourhood when an Israeli bulldozer covered her with sand as she stood in front of a bulldozer," said Dr Ali Musa, a doctor from the al-Najar hospital in the southern Gaza Strip. He said she died from skull and chest fractures.

The IDF said it was checking the report. The U.S. State Department had no immediate comment.

Greg Schnabel, 28, from Chicago, said the protesters were in the house of Dr. Samir Masri.

"Rachel was alone in front of the house as we were trying to get them to stop," he said. "She waved for bulldozer to stop and waved. She fell down and the bulldozer kept going. We yelled 'stop, stop,' and the bulldozer didn't stop at all. It had completely run over her and then it reversed and ran back over her."

Since the start of the Intifada, groups of international protesters have gathered in several locations in territories, setting themselves up as "human shields" to try to stop IDF operations.

Corey was the first member of the groups, called "International Solidarity Movement," to be killed in the conflict. Schnabel said Corey was a student at Evergreen College and was to graduate this year.

He said there were eight protesters at the site, four from the United States and four from Great Britain. "We stay with families whose house is to be demolished," he told the Associated Press by telephone from Rafah after the incident.

She was murdered, in cold blood. If you don't it's murder, try running over somebody with a buldozer in your home town and see what the cops do.

Their site will send an email letter, but make sure to call your congressperson also.

CFL ALERT:  AMERICAN WOMAN KILLED BY ISRAELI OCCUPATION FORCES.

GO TO http://cflweb.org/congress_merge_.htm. AND SEND A LETTER NOW.

On 3/16/2003 an American woman in Gaza protesting the occupation was
murdered after being run over by an Israeli bulldozer.  Witnesses said
Rachel Corey, from the state of Washington, was trying to stop a
bulldozer from tearing down a building in  Rafah, Palestine.  A
witness,Greg Schnabel, 28, from Chicago, said:  "[Rachel Corey] waved
for the bulldozer to stop. She fell down and the bulldozer kept going.
We yelled 'stop, stop,' and the bulldozer didn't stop at all. It had
completely run over her and then it reversed and ran back over her."

CFL calls on all peace groups in the United States and around the world
to contact congress and tell them that they must condemn this action
and call for an investigation of Israeli policies in the occupied
territories.

Send a letter, make a phone call, let your voice be heard.

*****************************
TALKING POINTS:

* The death of Ms. Corey is one tragedy among thousands that are
committed by Israel daily.  The current administration refuses to
prevent the murder and humiliation of Palestinians by the Israeli
army.  Demand that they speak out now that a fellow American has been
killed by the Occupation forces.

* Israelis continuously try to harm citizens from the U.S. and from
around the world who have stood side by side with peace minded Israelis
and Palestinians to fight against the occupation.  American citizens
are turned away and put on return flights home as soon as they land in
Ben Gurion airport. Others are imprisoned without representation. Many
Americans who call their Embassy in Israel are faced with ridicule and
indifference.  Ask your Representatives why they are silent about such
blatant disrespect of our country?

* Tell your elected officials that it is their duty to promote and
protect the interests of Americans here and abroad and that those
interests supersede the sordid relationship that many Congressmen and
Senators have with Israeli politicians and lobby groups.

*Demand that Israel stop its racist treatment of Americans in Israel.
Whether they are Palestinian-Americans visiting their families, or non
Arab-Americans wishing to express solidarity with the Palestinians.
Solidarity is not a crime, and we demand that our government protect
American citizens in Israel by holding Israel accountable for their
treatment. Don't let the death of Rachel Corey go without condemnation.

Rachel Corrie did NOT die in vain. We will carry on her work ten-fold, one-hundred fold, one thousand-fold! OK, most of us are entitely too chicken to stand in front of a bulldozer driven by a rabid Zionist (add me to that list of "Chicken Shits"),
HOWEVER the least we can do is send a barrage of faxes, e-mails, and phone calls to our public serpents, OH, I meant "public servants", the US Senate and Congresspeople NOW! Here is the way to start: call the congressional switchboard to get to their office: gently ask for their fax number, once you get it , then VENT!!!!!
Then fax over a letter with your message of outrage! Here is the phone number: 1-800-839-5276.
NOW MAKE THAT CALL!!!!!!!!!!!
