Crackdown on Independent Media: CHP Rescinds SF-IMC Press Credentials

by mail clerk
Perhaps in connection to SF-IMC's coverage of the forest defense movement in Humboldt County, CHP Commander Tom Marshall wrote to 8 SF-IMC reporters that their press credentials have been rescinded and will no longer be recognized by CHP personnel. Cc'ed was the Humboldt County Sheriff.

...just to see what they think.

I don't know if they have some sort of legal grounds, but if there were a call for public pressure . . . people would respond.

Call, write, email and fax.

Convey your outrage that the state should impose a political litmus test for freedom of the press. It's not just immoral, it's un-American.

This is the land of freedom, not the land of permission doled out like so many royal favors.

We don't need any fucking march permits, first amendment zones, or press credentials.

If CHP won't co-operate with the free spread of news and information - they are the enemy.

No, this, like all land on earth, has rules. And not everyone in the world is a media organization. Little Bobby and his friend Jimmy can't make a geocities website, call themselves "the media" and expect to be taken seriously. Well, they can, but it won't happen. Standards need to be set.

The first amendment does not say that the right is reserved to the government to determine who is the press and who isn't. Try reading it sometime. It says that the government is not to abridge the freedom of the press. It doesn't mention corporate sponsorship or litmus tests.
by Corporate Media-R-Asskissers
Chickenshit pigs can't deal with criticism and exposes of the criminal behavior that hides behind a badge. You won't read any serious criticism in corporate media, because they know to lick cops' boots.

Ever see a cop in court? They lie through their teeth to get any conviction, and get away with it every time. Why? Because they know the police unions and wall-of-blue will always back them up.

This is an ominous sign of the times. No sooner do we get a truly independent, democratic, non-commercial means of information exchange then this. . .

Kind of makes me paranoid. I thought this kind of thing was passe'.

I wonder what would happen if a number of civilians would complain to the SFPD, on behalf of us little people. - d

Nobody gets away with doing evil. It may seem like it , but in the long run every evil doer gets their due. It's like darkness, where does it go when the light exposes it. Don't worry about all the hypocrisy either and crooked government , it too will have its day of judgement. The question is , whose side am I on. There is where the deception comes in . Everyone thinks they are on the right side. A man's way is always right in his own eyes but the truth will find it out. Don't believe for one second that anything in this world can escape the ubiquitous gaze of Truth. Keep your own backyard clean and let the chips fall where they may. In a hundred years it still won't matter.

"This is an ominous sign of the times. No sooner do we get a truly independent, democratic, non-commercial means of information exchange then this. . . "

Are you surprised? Indymedia has played it's cards in advocating violence against citizens.

Indymedia has given up any pretense of independence.

"Shutting down" SF by "non-violent" action is violence against individual rights. As such, those who do so are subject to arrest.

Anti-fascist citizens are organizing now to make citizen arrests, helping police to contain Indymedia violence against individual rights.

by Goile
Every media site is biased in it's own way. Even Indy Media.

Frankly, I'm not surprised that the cards got yanked. When you go around advocating violence, violation of property rights, vandalism, tresspassing, and general discord instead of doing what the RECOGNIZED media groups do, just report, then you get yanked.

Try just reporting for a change instead of trying to lead the charge. That's where the diffrerences come into play.

It's kinda like Switzerland....either you play neutral, or you get squashed.

This is what happens when you pick sides.
