Berkeley Contingent -- M15
please link this contingent to M15 feature
Tomorrow, Saturday, March 15, thousands upon thousands of Bay Area citizens
will descend on the Civic Center in San Francisco to protest the impending
war in Iraq. We urge you all to join us at the Downtown Berkeley BART
Station at 9:00 a.m. to form a Berkeley contingent to travel together to San
Francisco for the 11:00 a.m. event.
The Bush Administration has made clear that they want a war, at any cost,
and the United Nations seems powerless to stop them. Indeed, the only thing
that has delayed the onset of the invasion has been the millions of people
across the globe who have taken to the streets to show their opposition to
war. Given the military conditions in Iraq and the eroding diplomatic
situation, war could come at any moment and this may be our LAST CHANCE to
protest before the bombs begin to fall.
This anti-war movement has been described as the fastest-growing in history;
never before have so many people protested against a war before it has even
begun. Unfortunately, Bush has dismissed our massive opposition as a mere
"focus group" and plowed ahead with this unjust and unwise war. Let us come
together tomorrow to show, in one united voice, that pre-emptive war is
wrong and that the lives of innocent Iraqis and American soldiers should
never be spilled over oil and geo-political hegemony.
What: San Francisco Anti-War March
Where: Meet at Downtown Berkeley BART
When: Saturday, March 15, 9:00 a.m.
We hope to see you there.

Oh yeah. The UCB progressive leadership has been SOOOOO effective in getting people out for action. When Stanford can get more of a response than Berkeley, you know something's wrong.
And the something is the leadership that continues to alienate most of the campus anti-war population with it's ego filled idiots in control of the movement. They gotta be counter-intell -- why else would they continue to screw up the movement at Cal? October Rally for SJP? Dismal turnout. Last week's action? UCB was worst turnout of local colleges.

and I never hang around their 'contingent'. There are other demographic groups which apply to me which I'm more interested in associating with, than just marching with UCB students as a unified thing. Some people in my department go as a group. Other people I know hang around with other organizations within the march.
Um, there will be lots of non-citizens there, too.
Does anyone else out there think that the word "citizen" is way overused by "progressive people?" I think we should be careful about using words like that, words that actually exclude people we mean to include in "our" "movement."

Let's get over the division and negativity already, and look forward to this wonderful march full of beautiful, passionate people willing to take a stand against this unjust, unnecessary war.
I look forward to marching with all of you wonderful people!
