This is awfull but keep in mind that an equal number of Muslims were killed in one week of communal violence in India this year. One week. Maybe that puts things in a bit of perspective for you...

The above is the typical response we've come to expect from Israel's supporters.

First, I seriously doubt his statement is correct (at the very least it is exaggerated and he does not offer a source).

Second, even if it were true, I can't see how it justifies what Israel is doing.

Third, we are not paying for any crimes India may be doing.

We are paying for all of Israel's crimes to the tune of around 4 to 14 Billion dollars per year. Israel gets the lion's share of our foreign aid and should thus be singled out by activists until this is changed.

Otherwise, the blood from Israel's ethnic cleansing will be on our hands whether we like it or not.
Feel free to copy and pass this on.

Population of West Bank and Gaza: 2.9 million in 2000.
http://makeashorterlink.com/?P1A6211D3

2117 killed out of 2.9 million in 29 months.

Using the same percentage of deaths to population,
the equivalent number of killed in the USA would be

212,052 killed in 29 months.
Roughly 100 times the number killed in the West Bank and Gaza.

According to the U.S. Bureau of the Census,
the resident population of the United States,
projected to 3/15/2003 at 6:56:36 AM EST is

290,482,620

"The above is the typical response we've come to expect from Israel's supporters"

Yes logic, I hate when Palestinian supports are faced with it- is always ends in a temper tantrum and their screetching "ZIonism" at the top of their lungs as though it will drown out the sounds of reality

An Egyptian court has jailed 21 men for three years each for practising homosexuality.
The men were arrested two years ago at a Cairo nightclub known for being popular with gays, and found guilty in a special security court.

The original sentences were quashed after Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak ordered a retrial following criticism from human rights campaigners that the initial sentences were too harsh.

However the new sentences are longer than those originally imposed.

The men are currently free on bail and, unlike at their previous trial, they can appeal their sentences.

A further 29 men were acquitted.

Homosexuality is taboo but not illegal in Egypt, and prosecutions are brought under morality laws.

where are the protesters when you need them??? Where are the activists.
You can run, but you can not hide.

So you are saying that because other nations commit mass murder and ethnic cleansing that Israel has the right to do so?

Or that because many Jews in Israel went through the Holocaust they now get a free pass to commit mass murder and ethnic cleansing?

And that the tens of thousands of civilians killed by the Israeli invasion of Lebanon is OK just because other nations have done it.

Or that because 2 million Vietnamese were killed by the US part of the Vietnam War, and because the USA had its death squad Phoenix Program in Vietnam, and its rigged elections in Vietnam, that Israel has carte blanche to do the same in Palestine?

Mass murder is OK?
by war is hell!
oneword, "seriously doubted" the validity of my statement as I did not provide a source. Well, here ya' go buster.

http://edition.cnn.com/2002/WORLD/asiapcf/south/05/06/india.gujarat/

"Police say more than 900 people, mostly Muslims, have been killed in a wave of religious rioting that has swept the troubled state.

However, several human rights groups say their own investigations put the toll closer to 2,000 dead."

The lamest thing about this site is that people automatically make assumptions. What makes you think I'm a "supporter of Israel"? I brought up a fact that doesn't mesh well with your version of reality?

Look dude, you may live in a cave or something but anyone who watches or reads the news knows that there was a rash of communal violence in the Indian state of Gujarat. Heck, even if indymedia were your only source for news you still would have been aware of this happening as I read numerous posts on the main site, at SF indy, NYC, etc. etc. etc.

My point was that close to the same number of human beings were killed in a one week period as in close to two years of Intifada. These were people killed with clubs, knives, and fire not high-tech weaponry.

It is mind-boggling that anyone could think Israel has a policy of genocide and ethnic cleansing when so few people are being killed. Remember, this is a nation with one the most powerful armies in the world. They have rockets, bombs, fighter jets, Apache choppers and so on. Do you honestly expect anyone to believe that an army with this kind of might could only manage to kill under 2,000 people in close to two years? Can you at least think for one second without having to take an ideological line?

Here is another link on the Gujarat violence. There is tons of info. out there...
