The Pentagon will kill journalists

Of course this wasn't mentioned in today's Chronicle article which cheerily states:

"Journalists -- even members of foreign media embedded with U.S. forces -- will observe operations in the field and will be made aware of what Cassidy calls "sensitive information." They will be asked not to reveal upcoming operations that could jeopardize coalition forces. "We'll have to trust them," she said of the journalists. (Irony Alert!!)

Maybe they didn't want to mention that independent media will be targeted and destroyed because they have a couple reporters in the pool: "Chronicle reporter John Koopman and photographer Michael Macor will be with the Marines and reporter Carl Nolte with the Army."

... in the press pools, there will be a definite pecking order hierarchy, american press generally being given priority over foreign press.

on top: all FOX NEWS reporters and equipment personnel.

lower: all CNN reporters and equipment personnel.

lower: all other AMERICAN press, except independent american press.

lowest: everybody else. all foreign press and independent press.

the special treatment for the top two in the rankings includes generous access to all american military personnel, whether g.i.'s or generals. it also includes security, provided by american g.i.'s detailed to be body guards for these press personalities and their staff. back in washington, your lawyers and lobbyists will have unlimited access to F.C.C. chairman, mr. powell. if you work it right, it could be a great opportunity for deregulation and other goodies and candies.

if you're not in the first two spots, please expect never-ending harrassment and censorship, as well as threats on your life, or taunts about rape and abuse if you step out of line.

remember, if you play the game like FOXCNN, you'll be handsomely rewarded by the american government and the u.s. military. however, if you insist on playing by your own rules, you will treated as a threat and an enemy.

I bet the leaches appreciated it.
