North Bay MArch 5th Report

by Ben Saari (laidoff [at] sonic.net)
short summary of M5 actions in the North Bay
We started at 7am bannering over Hwy 101. Where we were met by California Highway Patrol, who insisted we keep moving on the overpass. We shuffled back and forth until 11am at which point the action moved to various high schools and Courthouse Square in downtown Santa Rosa. Petaluma High and Casa Grande High both had walk-outs followed by bannering in downtown Petaluma, Summerfield Waldorf in Santa Rosa and Nonsuch High in Sebastepol sent large contingents to downtown Santa Rosa. Downtown about 300 people had small group discussions about how to oppose various parts of the war machine (patriot act, clampdown on immigrants/civil rights restrictions, direct action, media watch/media development). Meanwhile at Sonoma State University there was a march of 500-600 students with some theater, speeches and teach-ins. At 3:30 a group approached the military recruiters office to blockade it's doors. I'll post more details as I get them.
