Is choice of Iraq administrator-to-be a deliberate insult?
It looks rather like it to me. Here is some evidence.
I suggest you might be rather amazed to read this:
http://www.tzemachdovid.org/Arab_Violence/jinsa.shtml
It is a letter defending Israel's military treatment of the Palestinians. Here's a quote:
"America's role as facilitator in this process should never yield to America's responsibility as a friend to Israel, the only country in the Middle East that shares our democratic and humanitarian values. Friends don't leave friends on the battlefield".
It is signed by Lt Gen Ray Garner together with 25 other leading US military men.
Why does this matter?
President Bush has designated Ray Garner as administrator of Iraq, to supervise reconstruction and humanitarian aid after conquest.
I don't think there is any doubt this man has at the very least Zionist leanings.
Without making any judgement on the underlying issues, does this look to you like a good indication that the US intends any real reconciliation, or is in anyway interested in building any empathy with the Iraqi people?
It is hard to imagine a more provocative and insensitive appointment. It looks callously deliberate to me.
If the link is defunct (it worked 6th March) then you can find the text of the letter at the foot of:
http://www.khilafah.com/home/category.php?DocumentID=6390&TagID=2#.
There are some suggestions that internet sites revealing Garner's attitudes to Middle-East questions are being purged of such references. Hopefully if this happens to the main link, the other will survive.
