-16:40 Dennis: a story in the London Observer newspaper "STREAMING yesterday revealed that the US National Security Agency (NSA) (at the request of Condi Rice) is conducting a 'dirty tricks campaign' against the members of the UN Security Council, bugging the home and office phones.. now with Martin Bright, one of the journalists who broke the story.. Martin: Details of the aggressive surveillance operation, which involves interception of the home and office telephones and the emails of UN delegates in New York, are revealed in a top secret document (see below) leaked to The Observer. The disclosures were made in a memorandum written by a top official at the National Security Agency - the US body which intercepts communications around the world - and circulated to both senior agents in his organisation and to a friendly foreign intelligence agency asking for its input.. The memo describes orders to staff at the agency, whose work is clouded in secrecy, to step up its surveillance operations 'particularly directed at.. UN Security Council Members (minus US and GBR, of course)' to provide up-to-the-minute intelligence for Bush officials on the voting intentions of UN members regarding the issue of Iraq. The leaked memorandum makes clear that the target of the heightened surveillance efforts are the delegations from Angola, Cameroon, Chile, Mexico, Guinea and Pakistan at the UN headquarters in New York - the so-called 'Middle Six' delegations whose votes are being fought over by the pro-war party, led by the US and Britain, and the party arguing for more time for UN inspections, led by France, China and Russia.

All,

As you've likely heard by now, the Agency is mounting a surge particularly directed at the UN Security Council (UNSC) members (minus US and GBR of course) for insights as to how to membership is reacting to the on-going debate RE: Iraq, plans to vote on any related resolutions, what related policies/ negotiating positions they may be considering, alliances/ dependencies, etc -the whole gamut of information that could give US policymakers an edge in obtaining results favorable to US goals or to head off surprises. In RT, that means a QRC surge effort to revive/ create efforts against UNSC members Angola, Cameroon, Chile, Bulgaria and Guinea, as well as extra focus on Pakistan UN matters.

We've also asked ALL RT topi's to emphasize and make sure they pay attention to existing non-UNSC member UN-related and domestic comms for anything useful related to the UNSC deliberations/ debates/ votes. We have a lot of special UN-related diplomatic coverage (various UN delegations) from countries not sitting on the UNSC right now that could contribute related perspectives/ insights/ whatever. We recognize that we can't afford to ignore this possible source.

We'd appreciate your support in getting the word to your analysts who might have similar, more in-direct access to valuable information from accesses in your product lines. I suspect that you'll be hearing more along these lines in formal channels - especially as this effort will probably peak (at least for this specific focus) in the middle of next week, following the SecState's presentation to the UNSC.

Thanks for your help

-00:55 Robert Knight and the Knight Report.. Robert: "STREAMING Bush unleashes the rhetoric of democracy and freedom.. says democracies do not engage in murder.. oops! see: Israeli death squad activity, now promised even in the USA.. and see: how Israeli *supports* democracy in the occupied territories.. UK parliment rebels against Blair and his support for Bush's oil war.. US terror alert eases.. FBI arrests 20 more.. another Canadian official, Charlotte Paris, forced to apologize, caught on a live microphone, muttering, 'Damn those Americans I hate those people!'
-05:24 Dennis: Israel's seige of the West Bank going from terrible to nightmarish.. "STREAMING now w Ramzy Baroud, author of Searching Jenin, Eyewitness Accounts, preface by Noam Chomsky.. Ramzy: the Israelis were the ones who started saying that hundreds may have died in Jenin, that there was a *massacre* in Jenin.. and then, with the help of the US media, turned around and smeared the Palestinians for repeating those assertions.. and the other day, Aljazeera TV (link2) (link3) caught Israelis beating and stabbing to death two Palestinians.. Dennis: no mention in the US media.. Ramzy: I know CNN must know about this, but they refuse to report on it.. about the 24-hour curfews that Palestinian towns suffer.. 868 days.. not allowed out for days at a time, not allowed to buy food, or go to the hospital, kids can't play outside.. Israeli loudspeakers say 'we will shoot you'.. Nablus under permanent curfew.. no water, no milk, people are dying in their homes.. a murderous campaign to destroy the spirit of the Palestinians.. one friend, has a two and three year old, the three year old does not remember life NOT under curfew.. Dennis: you grew up in a refugee camp, saw your parents being abused?.. Ramzy: yes, it will live with me forever.. I lived in the *Red Square*, so-called because of all the people that were killed there.. one young man killed, our neighbor, I was hiding in the bedroom.. people tried to protect the body from being kidnapped by the Israelis, they hid the corpse in the room were I was.. a lot of my friends became militants.. I talk to my dad even now, he says this person was killed, that person was killed.. I remember when I threw my first stone at an Israeli tank.. but I am not violent, my dad called me 'the prophet', because I was so quiet.. one day the Israeli settlers and soldiers came together and attacked the girls' school next door.. we heard screaming and shots being fired.. I stood in the middle of the schools, a decisive moment in my life.. I grabbed my first stone and ran to protect the girls.. and I threw my first stone.. once you feel that you are capable of standing up for yourself, nothing is ever the same.. then as I ran away, many shots were fired at me, a friend shot beside me.. my father beaten in front of me many times.. Israeli soldiers would come at night, take people out, use them as human shields.. my parents taken out many times, made to clean graffiti.. my father always refuses to talk about it.. I saw him punished, spit at.. at one point, my mother was beaten by the Israelis in the street while we were tied [cries].. but many people used to say, my family was *lucky*.. no one killed, no bones broken, no long stay in jail.. we were the envy of the camp..
-31:28 now excerpts from last night's presentation by British journalist, Greg Palast, in Berkeley.. "STREAMING Dennis: You know, I think the world of Greg Palast.. but Florida elections chief, Katherine Harris, has called Greg Palast 'twisted and maniacal'.. in the White House they say 'we hate that SOB'.. Michael Moore says Greg is a 'very courageous jounalist'.. Baltimore Weekly, says 'no one has investigated the *Bush Clan* as closely and lived to write about it'.. now here's Gregory Palast, author of The Best Democracy Money Can Buy.. [wild applause].. Greg: well then, let's twist;).. at least Katherine Harris didn't say I was wrong.. Wow, we really should thank Dennis Bernstein and Flashpoints Free Speech Radio and KPFA.. about GW's record in the Texas Air Guard during the Vietnam War.. became a pilot, so good the Viet Cong didn't dare attack Houston.. but he had to take a test, out of a 100 possible, he scored 25, one point above *too dumb to fly*.. was it affirmative action?.

The following inspirational piece by new paradigm author, Marianne Williamson, excerpted from her book, "A Return to Love" and quoted by Nelson Mandela in his 1994 inaugural address:

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light--not our darkness, that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves--who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous ?
Actually, who are you--not to be ?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small-- doesn't serve the world.
There's nothing enlightened about shrinking, so that other people won't feel insecure around you.
We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.
It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
We are liberated from our own fear; our presence automatically liberates others.

"The attitude of great poets is to cheer up slaves and horrify despots" ...Walt Whitman

My heart rouses
thinking to bring you news
of something that concerns you
and concerns many men. Look at
what passes for the new.
You will not find it there
 but in despised poems.
It is difficult
to get the news from poems
yet men die miserably every day
for lack of what is found there.
-- William Carlos Williams

'The theory of a free press is that truth will emerge from free discussion, not that it will be presented perfectly and instantly in any one account.'

Walter Lippmann
