SF F16 -- 4 Photos by Peter

250,000 demonstrated in San Francisco February 16 to stop war on Iraq. These are four photographs that illustrate different aspects of the march and rally.

I took this picture from 1 Hallidie Plaza, from the office of Green Action, a friendly environmental group. The area here got even more crowded.

The organizers provided a riser used by some of the photographers, and I took this from there. This and the photo of the banner, above, were taken with a fisheye lens.

I think with this weekend's events that the peace movement has gone mainstream!

I hope very much that you're right... it'd be the first good thing to ever go mainstream. =)

I was there. A wonderful and peaceful event. Humor and serious commentary among all the signs. Terrific street theatre. Great ethnic displays (Chinese dragons, Japanese drums, Aztec dancers, etc.) Seemed definitely a bigger crowd than last month, and more varied.

My favorite sign on the topic of PATRIOT Act and the coming Enhanced Domestic Security Act:

"Oh well, I wasn't using my civil liberties anyway..."

People, we ALL need to get on with activism NOW.

The S.F. Chronicle says this is only 65.000 people.
So much for unbiased reporting.

the US ally turkey kills kurds on a daily basis. turkey kills kurds even within iraqi territory, right underneath the 'no-fly' zone which is supposedly there to protect kurds.

so, another one of your lies is exposed.

The picture of the crowd at the civic center is absolutely gorgeous. That is all.
