Those cops didnt seem like they were very well trained in riding horses. I have seen teenagers have better control of a mount than some of these guys. Many of the riders were also grossly overweight, which is a terrible thing for a horse to deal with. Personally I am calling PETA because this treatment of horses is horrible. Horses like to run and play and eat and nuzzle. They don't like to have 280-pound donut gobblers forcing them to trample innocent people.

It's odd that you mention that because quite a few breeds of horse were bred for their willingness to stomp on people. We are returning to the Middle Ages. It's only a matter of time until these massive, armored cops are riding Clydesdales with big Budweiser ads in the saddle blanket. Clydesdales were originally meant to be ridden by knights, not as draft animals. They were prized for their high step and immense size. Just watch those slow-motion Bud ads and imagine them plowing through armies.

Sure, with a sufficient amount of controlled breeding and brutal discipline against any animal, you can probably "domesticate" them and get them to do whatever sick things you want them to do. That doesn't mean that deep down inside, the horse isn't still suffering :((((((

There has been seen in my time at Constantinople two men upon one horse, who, in the height of its speed, would throw themselves off and into the saddle again by turn; and one who bridled and saddled his horse with nothing but his teeth; another who between two horses, one foot upon one saddle and the other upon the other, carrying another man upon his shoulders, would ride full career, the other standing bolt upright upon him and making very good shots with his bow; several who would ride full speed with their heels upward, and their heads upon the saddle between several scimitars, with the points upward, fixed in the harness. When I was a boy, the prince of Sulmona, riding a rough horse at Naples to all his airs, held reals under his knees and toes, as if they had been nailed there, to show the firmness of his seat.

this is what it means to associate with a horse. not put a ulcer-having temper-problem control freak lard ass on top of it.

Dear cops,

You barely know how to ride those horses. You treat them like shit. And you force them to be in dangerous situations where you yourself are hardly in control. What is wrong with you? Seriously, ask yourself.

How hard would it be to pull one of those cops off the horses, give it a little slap on the butt, and let it run free?

Answer: not hard at all

Yes, maybe the police will retreat to their mass arrest sweep tendency that they exhibited, (apparently) during critical mass '97 after some people booed Mayor Brown when he tried to give a speech at the beginning, and during Rodney King. How exactly were those mass arrests conducted though? Was anyone there? I've just heard about them. Does everyone just line up and wait their turn to be put in a van, and do they let anyone go? If they are arresting 1000 people, like at Rodney King, how do they get people to stand still. I heard about a woman arrested who had just stepped onto Mission to buy a few groceries while her stove was on upstairs and she had small kids.

That video seems to show that the police had quite a bit of justification for their actions.

Aside from actually threatening police and attacking them by throwing things at them, the protestors, as usual, seem to forget that restraining people's free movement is a form of violence.

If you move off a designated march route and begin vandalizing private property, you should expect the police to try and stop you. That's why you pay them. ;-)
