Sacramento Peace and Justice groups hosted a regional Anti-war protest and Peace Rally today at the state Capitol. Organizers estimate close to 10,000 people were there by the middle of the afternoon.

The march part of the protest began at noon, when groups from the four directions marched peacefully, on the sidewalks, to the Capitol.

The Rally on the west Capitol Steps went from 1-4pm. There were speakers from the sponsoring organizations and a diverse group of musicians and poets performed. The rally ended with a Peace Circle where everyone held hands around the Captiol.

Sac Green, Jim Barton, talking to one of the "young legislators" in town for a mock government session at the Capitol. They were told specifically to NOT go out where the protesters where. This young man obviously has a mind of his own!

The Rally ended with everyone holding hands around the Capitol. Very beautiful! It was a great day. And, the neat thing is...most of the afternoon it was cloudy, but we didn't get the rain that was predicted..then, around 5pm, right after the rally ended, it started raining! Mother knows who loves her!

If you were there, you wouldn't have put your estimate at 2000. There was definately more people than that. The crowd thinned out a lot after like 3:00, but before that the entire park was packed from stem to stern.

You say, "Sacramento Peace and justice Groups hosted a regional Anti-war protest and Peace Rally today at the state Captiol. Organizers estimate close to 10,000 people were there by the middle of the afternoon."
"I say, "More then 15,000 were at the Capitol of California, to show their opposition to the Bush WAR plans, against the, men, women and children of the Sovereign Country of Iraq, which is not at war with any Country at this time, to effect a so called regime change, to Bush’s dictates."
Also, phrases like close to 10,000, or a few thousand, seems to be minimizing, also, it seems to me that people should take notice of the fact that this event was given almost no publicly to let the public know that it was going to take place, and that the people who showed up were truly a cross section of the public at large, again, more then 15,000 people, to maybe as high as 25,000 American Patriots came to this one of many locations through out the United States as well as the entire World to say to, ( Bush ), “ NO, NOT IN OUR NAME! ”

After surveying the local print and television after Saturday's Anti-War Protest it appeared that little coverage was given to the event, an event which was the largest and most diverse protest to date in the Capitol City.

The coverage on channel the local NBC affiliate was inaccurate and misleading. It was characterized as insignificant in its turn out.

Thanks to the reports on indymedia a record is being compiled of what actually happened.

The Sacramento area did show up, thanks to great organization. I didn't count bodies, but the crowd was large 10,000+, diverse in message as well as in social-cultural backgrounds, mobilized for further action, and committed to being heard.

If this is to happen, local media will have to be made accountable for their coverage.

It's less than comforting to know that our local newspaper isn't interested in doing anything but giving a pro-war slant to the news. =(

I guess that's why sites like this one exist though. Perhaps Indymedia should be extended to cover all news, not just the stuff that isn't covered by the normal media. I mean, they cover up the stuff that we show here: but they put heavy slants on the things that we don't show here. We should be able to at least put slants of our own in. =)

I don't know how feasable that is though. Just a thought.

... at the event. I hope they post more of them up here.

Yes, it was good day for great speeches and to see the Power of the People coming together! It did remind me of the Anti-Vietnam War protest rallies.

Much of the work must be done in our own homes, among our family and loved ones, in our own local neighborhoods. We are blessed these days in that we can utilize the Power of the Internet to promote our causes and issues.

I just wanted to write to thank the protestors for shutting down the bus service downtown, forcing me to walk two miles to get a bus on arthritic knees, and aggravating a pinched nerve in my back, both of which I got in service to my country.

If you see a pissed of vet tomorrow, get the hell out of his way.

Go do something useful, you stupid fucks.
