The Sustainable Communities Biodiesel Roadshow launches peace activists

Using homemade biodiesel fuel, peace activists from Humboldt County, California hit the road to rally against the pending US war. They are heading to Chico, Sacramento, and San Francicso to send the message that assuring the US supply of petroleum is not worth killing thousands of Iraqi families. "I think the possibility of war is really scary and very real," said one of the trip organizers.
One student from Humboldt State University observed, "There is an obvious international resistance to Bush's unilateral action." He proposed that the US government take action to prevent an unnecessary war. "We need to be withdrawing our troops, for starters. Second, we need to support the decisions of the United Nations."
The Sustainable Communities Biodiesel Roadshow, a project of the Redwood Peace and Justice Center, facilitates education and builds communities across geographic boundaries by transporting people to social events and gatherings. The bus runs on biodiesel, a fuel made from waste vegetable oil from fast food restaraunts. The fuel they brew contains only 20% petroleum, emits no compounds that cause acid rain, and helps to clean the diesel engine of harmful residue.
A schoolteacher riding the bus was excited about being one out of millions around the globe who support peace. "I feel like the world is in a very precarious place. Now is the time to participate in a creative festival of resistance."
