National Day of (In)Action
National general strike against Iraq war
On Valentine´s Day, citizens across the country will make sure their voices are no longer ignored by the Bush administration. They will refuse to fuel the economy, and fund Bush´s Wall Street cronies. They will refuse to participate in a system that dismisses their concerns about sending their children to war.
They will accomplish all this by doing nothing - by sleeping in, or spending the February 14th holiday with a valentine. They may have parties in the street or at home, but they will not keep conduct business as usual. Americans are frustrated at the lack of response to growing opposition to a war in Iraq, and have decided convential avenues of dissent are no longer effective.
A wide range of groups, from union members, to concerned mothers, to progressive antiwar activists have signed on, either having suggested a strike to stop the war, or specifically proposing a Valentine´s Day action. The momentum of so many groups arriving upon the same course of action is evidential of a national tide of unity against this war. A similar (in)action has also been planned for the UK.
