Today, Feb. 4th, students at CCSF made a bold statement against an administration that 's cutting funding for education while ramping up the war effort and expanding the prison system. The "Student Militia" waged a symbolic war with against Gray Davis' budget cuts, the tuition hike at ccsf (classes are going from $11 a unit to $24 next semester), the cuts in assistance to students, and the money being spent on Prisons and Military. There was a joint faculty/student rally at Ram Plaza, at CCSF's main campus against the economic war being waged against low-income students, and the greater war being waged against the poor of the world. The Student Militia was taking recruits at it's booth; giving out armbands, T-shirts, masks, cardboard weapons, bagels and gun-shaped cookies created by the Ladies' Knitting Circle for Patriarchal Subversion.
After the rally the militia, the Ladies Knitting Circle, and other concerned students marched down Ocean Avenue from the campus to the Marine recruitment center. Surrounded by stone-faced cops, people gave open speeches on a bullhorn, chanted, and generally raised a god-awful noise! None of the recruiters would show their faces.

No, seriously though, don't let the Anarchists get you down. You're thinking globally and acting locally: and at the very least, it's a start. At least, in my opinion. I'm idealistic, but not idealistic enough to believe that we all should BEGIN our efforts on a global level. We need to start locally, and build from there. It takes steps like this one to get the ball rolling. In fact, it's probably more than some of us here have ever done, so you have great reason to be proud of standing up.

I know it's more than I've ever done. I spout a lot of theory, and I love to debate and try to change people intellectually, but I have hardly ever gone beyond a one-on-one Anti-Capitalist interaction. Sometimes it changes people's minds, sometimes it doesn't, but I've probably never affected as many people as you did in that one action. So bravo I say. Keep up the good work.

What do the militia students study at ccsf? I'm all for a war against poverty but I'm curious about the weapons we should be using.
