SF Chronicle Reporter Shows Bias, Car Gets Attacked

by oakland raiders report
Information about an unidentified San Francisco Chronicle reporter.
This is just an interesting thing that happened during the Oakland Radiers riots.

Two reporters who were together, one who identified as being from the San Francisco Chronicle, and another. The one who didn't identify himself was talking loudly on his cellfone and talking about how he was concerned/afraid to be by what was going on.

He said that because he and his coworker are white, he was advising his coworker to "stay behind the police" and dont go near the crowd.

When he was told by bystanders that race had nothing to do with it and that there were black people, Mexican people, white people and Asian people in the crowd, and they were all getting along just fine, he insisted that anyone who was white not go into the crowds and stay far behind the teargas-launching police.

When further pressed on the matter, he started calling people "whiteboy" and challenging bystanders to go into the crowd. The multiethnic crowd of about 10 people told him that they had been in the crowd/riot, they were going back, and he was acting racist by saying that no white people could go there.

At this point, the reporter became extremely agitated and started to go into his car. He claimed that his wife was black and that he knew "what was up."

As he continued to yell at the group of people and they began to drive away, several people through rocks at their car.

The people who talked afterwards said that this kind of racist and "rich person's" reporting was exactly what was wrong with the media. They also said that patterns of corruption in the police force and police aggressiveness against poor or black/mexican people were to blame for the violence that occurred, which was mostly some property destruction and a lot of violence against humans committed by the police.

This reporter (presumed to be working for the SF Chronicle, his partner was) should have the guts to come forth and make his statements in public. People should know what kind of twisted thinking goes into the biased reporting done by the Chron.

The news on kron-4 was just as bad as this. Same thing, the police are so great with crowds of savages in the streets. I wonder, in rich neighborhoods are they allowed to gather outside of their homes and hang out in the street? I think so.

Also the kron-4 newsvan got attacked and its windows broken.

Here is an article about the black bloc from over a week ago, put in today's Chronicle juxtaposed to the stuff about the raider's stuff. They seem to be informed on only a basic level as to what is going on: http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2003/01/27/BA192742.DTL

They got more idea of what's happening than just a basic level. Looks like they nailed what the black bloc is and represents pretty much on the head.

last night was a microcosm of the the bay area's attitude toward oaklanders.

first of all, was it really a riot, or did OPD come around and overreact to a bunch of multicultural youths celebrating in the streets?

personally, i thought it was beautiful to see so many different people getting along in the streets. Race did not matter. Social status did not matter. Class did not matter.
The Raider Nation celebrated as one, and there were no fights.
Anyone who really knows Fruitvale knows what an amazing accomplishment this was.
Yeah there were still sideshows, but there were no fights, and that is HUGE in this neighborhood!

The homicide rates in East Oakland boomed last year, but was anyone killed in Fruitvale on Sunday Night?

probably because the shooters only had wooden bullets...

How is burning cars in the streets a celebration? I'm all for multiculturalism. I'm all for partying in the streets. I'll be the first on to say Fuck the Police...BUt if people want to be take seriously they need to fucking A act it, and burning your neighbors car is not the answer. Neither is 400 cops and teargas and wooden bullets. It seems like people from both sides of this are not thinking straight. This kind of behaviour just gives them more material to help promote their Police state...This is just the beginning folks. Violence in any way is not the answer. Neither police violence nor mob violence. Get it together folks...I would prefer not to breath in any more teargas smoke when I walk home to my crib in east oakland...

OK, so this reporter was worried that he'd be attacked, and you guys got mad because you weren't going to attack him, so you attacked him?

Idiot.

What I get from all this is that IndyMedia likes all riots, regardless of what logic is used to support it.

Come on, you need to get a grip on your life... grow th'hell up, we need you to work for the good of all, not just to get your rocks off by throwing tantrums like this week in and week out.

Sorry to hear about that.

You'd know nothing of a number of details about this event if it wasn't for imc, particularly the racist aspects, as well as things like police throwing tear gas at locals who were in front of their own houses.

I think you yourself might need to do some growing up before trying to attack everyone else.
