Oakland: Oppose War At Home & Abroad
$200 bn. for war on Iraqi people while 7 Oakland Public Libraries proposed for closing
OAKLAND:
NO WAR ON IRAQ; NO BUDGET CUTS AT HOME!
We, working class people, are going to have to pay for the coming US corporate attack on the Iraqi people. The $200 bn. that Bush is planning to spend (for a start) will be coming out of our hide.
Look at what is happening in Oakland: Before a single US troop invades Iraq, they are already discussing closing seven Oakland branch libraries (West Oakland, Temescal, Brookfield, Melrose, Elmhurst, Martin Luther King and Lakeview)! It is true that other plans are also being discussed, and it is possible that something less drastic is actually being planned. But no cuts are acceptable. There are also plans for laying off Oakland teachers, cuts in the fire department and other cuts in services.
Now, more than ever, we need an increase in social services.
Last year was a record year for the number of murders in Oakland. Surely, the increased unemployment and lack of services is related. These cuts will only make matters worse. When the real spending for the war starts, there will then be even more cuts.
Oppose the coming war against the Iraqi people!
Oppose closing theTemescal, Brookfield, Melrose, Elmhurst, Martin Luther King and Lakeview libraries !
“No” to all cuts in services! Oppose the war on working class people at home and abroad!
