A Split Screen In Strike-Torn Venezuela. Lockout and Media War exposed by Mark Weisbrot.

by eco man
Lockout and media war inside and outside Venezuela is exposed by a Washington Post article! Excellent article summarizes what REALLY is going on inside and outside Venezuela. The last sentence probably explains why such a good article is found in the Washington Post: "Mark Weisbrot is co-director of the Center for Economic and Policy Research, an independent nonpartisan think tank in Washington."

The main thing missing in the article is detail on the Big Oil finances which are the basis of this latest oil coup attempt.

In 1974 80% of oil income went to the state. Today 80% of Venezuelan oil income goes to the rich, and to "operating costs." Only 20% goes to the state. Chavez reforms will help reverse this in January 2003. This is why the coup-plotters are in such a hurry to overthrow the fairly-ELECTED Chavez government, to prevent these reforms, and to reverse others already-implemented. Reforms that help the poor and lower middle class. Massive corporate-media disinformation, destabilization campaign going on inside Venezuela. Support President Chavez! Thanks for posting that - a relief to read it.

I've been noticing lately that the WP appears to be parting ways with the NYT, particularly on war coverage and now, Venezuela. Only a few weeks ago they were writing about the speculations of a post-chavez government, but now this.

I think it helps a newspaper when their reporters get arrested at the demos, as the WPs have been.
