--Everybody to show up Friday for Rally & Press Conference!!!!

But the fact is that the government is only interested in instilling terror in the hearts and minds of Arabs and Muslims everywhere. Why? The coming firestorm in the Middle East. Conducting the Bush Administration’s brand of foreign policy can be difficult with a nation of immigrants looking on, so shutting those immigrants up is mandatory. If our foreign policy were just, of course, that would not be necessary.
But that is a distant dream right now.
This is our worst nightmare.

There are a miliion reasons to beat up the INS, but this is not one of them. INS isn't organized enough to be corrupt, and there isn't any conspiracy to opress the poor downtrodden Arabs (who don't belong here in the first place). Do you really think there is a brain at INS? Do you think there is any idiot at INS who has ever had an original thought or idea? Do you think any of them care enough to actually formulate and carry out any kind of plan? Do you think there is any INS civil servant who is any more than a clock-watcher with a cushy government job goofing off from 8 to 5 day-in-day-out with sick leave, vacation time, and a hundred paid holidays until retirement? You give the INS far too much credit. INS just isn't smart enough to have any motivates, let alone ulterior.

I am for an INS. But I am as against the way this one operates as the next guy. Face a reality here: Have you ever seen a baseball umpire call a third strike and then change the call to a ball because the batter protested in a tantrum? Protesting INS is an equal waste of time, only on a bigger scale, and the protester looks equally foolish. Move on to something you have a hope of fixing without tearing it down.

Along with countless thousands of others, I came to America for a better life. I played by the rules, some of which didn't make sense to me, but I was used to living in a far more regulated society. I reported anually to the INS before I became a Non-Resident Alien and once I received by Green Card prepared for the next step, citizenship. In applying for the Green Card I again jumped through alot of hoops and filled out lots of forms.
I have no empathy for those that don't play by the rules. Life is not one of choosing which rules to live by.
The people who don't think they need to adhere to the rules are not worthy of US citizenship and should feel free to return to their countries of origin or some of the countries that will allow them the liberty they are experriencing here. Americans are so naive. Quit protecting these dangerous sorts.

"Life is not one of choosing which rules to live by. "

Good point. The choice was in taking advantage of what America has to offer. Once this choice is made the tradeoff are some rules to follow. I am baffled at the whining I see on some of these posts about this subject.
I'm a US Citizen now and when I travel, have no objection to following the rules of the country I visit - passport, visa, proof of citizenship, return ticket, etc.

when hitler became chancelor (and later, supreme dictator) and began persecuting ethnic and cultural groups and purging germany, nobody moved a finger. everyone either thought this was a true and right path or were too scared to do anything. later, after one of the worst wars in the world's history, american soldiers discovered the concentration camps. one would think that the world would be changed forever...that the phrase "never again" would ring true for any of us, whether we be jewish, muslim, from russia or southeast asia. are we blind? do we not see the obvious hipocracy of the united states? nobody can have "weapons of mass destruction," but we can. nobody can engage in wrongful imprisonment and torture, but we can. always the exception to the rule... meanwhile, our "democracy," our government "for the people," continues to place far more funds into defense than education or healthcare. it just goes to show, as a superpower we have become so vulnerable, and where will weapons get us...the will not cure poverty, they will not stop aids and they will certainly not make children who feel safe and secure in themselves and their world.

Jayden, I have to wonder how you came to the conclussion you did. Prior to Sept. 11 and the war in Afghanistan a mere 7% of the national budget went to defense. Yes, it is somewhat higher now which is logical when you consider the fact homeland security is lumped into that budget.

As for the weapons of mass destruction issue. Again you are only seeing what your limited mind wants to see. There is a nuclear non-proliferation pact with North Korea, so yes they should stick to the treaty they signed. As for Iraq, Do you really think a country that is willing to use these weapons on their own people should have them? If you really paid attention to what is going on in the world and within the U.S. you would know the U.S. following treaties is decreasing if not destroying it's own chem/bio weapons stockpiles. This of course follows treaties with countries such as Russia. However, as a defensive measure some long range tactical and strategic weapons must be maintained.

You like some others that post to this site continually compare the United States to Hitler's Germany or denounce the H bombs used on Japan to end WWII. But you always you generalities and not hard facts. When you claim to have facts it is always from one of your radical sources, not from legitimate sources. If a legitimate source, i.e. mainstream media (both foriegn and domestic) or government sources (both foriegn and domestic) say something you disagree with or isn't a radical view you claim conspiracy or opression. It's ridiculous.

You need to get psycholigical counselling so you can come to terms with your low self-esteem and start building yourself as worthwhile productive person.

by jayden
hmmm, robert, can i ask you exactly what mainstream media sources you are refering to and how exactly you plan to get accurate, non-biased information from them when in general "mainstream media" refers media owned by corporations. what is a corporation's main objective: profit. let's take a look at the big media corporations: GE/NBC, Viacom, Disney, TIme Warner. what kind of accurate information are they feeding to the american public? take a look at the nightly local news on an nbc affiliate. i gurantee that there will be possibly one segment about education (probably how school was closed today due to snow) and three segments on local crimes committed by young, black men.

what do you consider san francisco indy media? do you visit this site because you are genuinely interested in the information provided here or because you want to demean "leftist radicals" for what they think. i recognize that this country is full of people who don't agree with me and i fully support the right to free speach. however, i also want to have access to correct information. i want to have access to the truth. i know that you'll say that i just don't want to believe that the mainstream media provides the truth because it doesn't fin into my point of view. i could say the same about you.
so, when the truth comes tumbling down around your ears, when the world dies because we killed it through war, enviromental destruction and neglect...we'll see who needs a psychologist then.

Two simple points that dismiss your parallel of modern US INS practices and the rise of Hitler.

1.

1. Those being detained are ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS from countries on a terrorist watch list. While listening to NPR on the way in to work the other morning, I listened to the painful recounted story of a man who came to the US, had a visa, the visa expired, and he had applied for a Green Card. He was detained until the Green Card story checked out. He was released and went about his merry way. Point being, he WAS in the country illegally, but was trying to work within the rules to stay. Outcome? He stays.
2. The Jews of Hitler’s time were Citizens of Germany. Those being detained in the US are not.

Oh…by the way…while Hitler’s actions were not of the typical leftist dogma, he DID run on a leftist campaign and motivated his people to action through the use of mob mentalities.

Under the US system of government, there are three branches of the government that can check and balance each other and we function by a REPRESENTATIVE government, not a true democracy, which diffuses situations of Mob Rule.

Socialism, which is basically a watered-down version of communism, is inherently doomed to fail due to one certain and undeniable human factor: determination of self need.

If one person believes deeply enough that he needs something for himself or his family, he will do all that he can to secure it. If someone wants something enough, he will do the same. Under socialism, the group determines the fate of the individual…which promotes Mob Mentalities…instead of the individual determining his own fate.

Socialism and communism are the ultimates of Anti-Freedom.

As for media, take the most mainstream leftist media and the most mainstream rightist media and pick out the consistancies. From there you can extrapalate very good opinions.

One other thing: Truth does not always equal Fact. Truth is a belief and can be argued. Fact is undeniable.
