News Years Resolution To Save Campaign for Renters Rights

by Lynda Carson (lyndacarson [at] excite.com)
The Campaign for Renters Rights needs community support to keep it honest as a tenants group to be controlled by the tenants of the Bay Area.
New Years Resolution - Save the CRR

My New Year’s Resolution to Save the Campaign for Renters Rights.

A) Remove all power from the Labor’s Militant Voice rascals who recently tried to split up the Campaign for Renters Rights (a tenants group) up into something different to suit the needs of Labors Militant Voice (LMV).

B) Hand the group over to the real hero’s of the Campaign for Renters Rights who are the ones to have actually made a stand against the landlord’s no matter what the risks were to themselves.

I recommend Sue Doyle, Doris Stancil, Vivian Haine, Sandra Miguel, Corrine James, and Lorraine Key to remain in charge of the CRR because they are the ones who took a real risk in fighting their evictions and were willing to face whatever the corrupt system was going to throw at them for being trouble makers in the world of the ruling class. They were not the ones who tried to split up the group for LMV purposes, and Sue Doyle was the spirited one to hold firm against the breakup and helped to motivate the group into collecting signatures for Measure EE.

These above brave woman know the value of the Campaign for Renters Rights more than the LMV Homeowners could ever grasp, and their battles were not done for political gain. They were fighting for their lives from the eviction for profit system in the best way they knew how.

Let them run the group since they have the real spirit of those struggling to be a part of a tenants movement who refuse to bow down to the ruling class.

I recommend Sue Doyle to be the Resident Caretaker of the group because she has been the one to be the most honest and active in the CRR to promote and protect renters rights in Oakland ever since her own experience of being dumped upon the streets by another asshole wannabe landlord.

Sue Doyle worked hard to bring about the differing factions of rebelling tenants in Oakland without seeking political gain, and worked extra hard to support Just Cause with the depths of her heart.

Your way too Kool Sue! Right on!

These are the real hero’s of the Campaign for Renters Rights!

Happy New Years to All

Sincerely,

Lynda Carson

How you may help Campaign for Renters Rights.

For those that may be interested.

I would suggest the following.

Get as many parties & individuals interested in promoting renters rights as soon as possible to start going to the CRR Meetings, especially the next one. The more diverse the crowd the better.

First Step.
Compell a vote for the evenings agenda to firmly establish the Campaign for Renters Rights as a tenants group that is an independant entity from any other groups, including Labors Militant Voice that may have an intent to splinter the group again such as they already tried recently. This is the only way to stabilize the group so that new comers and existing tenant members may invest time, energy, or resources that will nurture the group far into the future. Secure all CRR funding, images, lists, contacts, outreach, and human resources for the CRR as a seperate entity from others.

Second Step.
Any or all elected positions should be rotated so that no groups or individuals gain or collect power over the others in the group. No one group or individual should have more representation than another in elected positions, etc.

This way there are no so-called leaders, but, a collective group of interested parties (residential tenants/renters) trusted to make sure that the group itself no longer is shrouded in secrecy by the behind the scene players from Labors Militant Voice who have manipulated the group for reasons unknown to the renters, supporters, and friends of the CRR.

Third Step.
All elected positions should be for established residential tenants. Not homeowners, landlords, condo owners, or TIC owners.

From there, it should be up to the tenants as to how to remain true to their cause without fear or intimidation from others (Labors Militant Voice) claiming control over the group.

If Labors Militant Voice objects to this form of Democracy in the Campaign for Renters Rights, the CRR shall continue to remain a front group of LMV, which is not a tenants rights group.

Campaign for Renters Rights meetings are generaly held on the first Monday of the month at 6:00 at the Temescal Library in Oakland. The next appears to be scheduled for Monday January 6, 2003.

Location;
Temescal Library in Oakland, corner of 51st & Telegraph. (enter the meeting room from the outside behind the back of the Library)

All others are welcom to add their comments, opinions, ideas, or suggestions.

Don't like paying rent?
Tired of fascist landlords?
Then buy your own place to live!
Or is that too simple, not nuanced enough for you whiners? The landlord put up the money to buy and fix up the building while you were out marching. Yeah, when you pay the rent you have certain rights, but so does he.
Just why in hell would anyone want the grief of owning a rental property in a rent control city anyway? Let the socialists build their own apartments, like the luxury units around Moscow.

Tired of paying rent?
Sick of dealing with fascist landlords?
BUY YOUR OWN PLACE TO LIVE.
There, wasn't that easy? Or maybe it's too simple, not nuanced enough for you? The hated landlord puts up his money to buy the building, takes the risk of worthless tenants, pays the taxes, etc. You pay the rent and live there. Yeah, you have rights, but so does he.
But anyway, how crazy would you have to be to own a rental property in a rent controlled city? Let the socialist build their own worker's paradise apartments, and see their reaction when the guy next door decides to change his oil and pour it down the drain.
