BBC Online: US immigration officials in Southern California have detained hundreds of Iranians and other Muslim men who turned up to register under residence laws brought in as part of the anti-terror drive. Reports say between 500 and 700 men were arrested in and around Los Angeles after they complied with an order to register by 16 December.

The Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) is refusing to say how many people were arrested but said detainees were being held for suspected visa violations and other offences.

The arrests sparked angry protests in Los Angeles by thousands of Iranian-Americans waving banners which read "What's next? Concentration camps?" and "Free our fathers, brothers, husbands and sons"

if you want to call for concentration camps, you're going to have to do it on your own nickle. Start a website, pay it's bills, say what you want. Here, you are not allowed to call for concentration camps, particularly ones based on ethnicity.

How about one-way tickets back to fucking Iran

The liars and propagandists of this site won't confront the truth - those arrested are guilty of violating U.S. immigration laws! They are not green card holders, asylum seekers, asylees or foriegn born U.S. citizens - they are just tourists and students who came here on non-immigrant visas and refused to leave when their visas expired. The U.S. arrests and deports thousands of such people every year.

"How about one-way tickets back to fucking Iran"

How about a one way ticket back to Crackerville, USA.

You're absolutely right. They don't have green cards! Wanna know why? I'll tell you. Because many of these people have been going through the legal process of obtaining one!

How resourceful of the INS that they slow down the legal process and then arrest these people who fall victim of their incompetence or deliberate stalling tactics!

Anyone who promotes this type of agenda in my opinion, is missing any connection to their soul. In just a little over one year, we have allowed our government to become the monster we pretend to be fighting against. Fear, revenge, and ruthlesslessness is fast becoming our trademark.

The IndyMedia people aren't the propagandizers, it's Bush & Company; the real Axis Of Evil!

You're not telling the truth yourself. I don't care if you want to defend the INS. That's OK. I'm not interested in demonizing them. But you're way over the top. The INS has fucked up here big-time, and even you should be able to see that because it's not in your interest to have an INS not able to do it's job (under heat of criticism following their fuck-ups). It's been reported in the news in many instances (LA Times, SF Chron, etc.) that a great many of those detained were perfectly legal. That's just a fact. How you chose to process that fact in your own mind and worldview is your prerogative, but regardless of what you do with that fact, your opinion doesn't change reality

"If you want to stay in MY country"

Go home Mikey, the library is closing and other people need to get online.

actually, yes, Nessie-- the vast majority of the American public obeys the laws of the land... I know that may be shocking to hear, but it's true.

Someone sold her a bridge recently . . . .

you are aware that GW Bush is President aren't you? I bet you're in denial about that simple fact as well.

It's tough to admit the truth. It's easier to lie, cheat and steal.

Here's a clue: Most americans are god-fearing, law abiding citizens and patriots who don't believe in a free lunch-- and they're sick and tired of whining liberals who can't be held responsible for anything-- including following the country's own laws without being dragged kicking and screaming.

<the vast majority of the American public obeys the laws of the land... I know that may be shocking to hear, but it's true.>

Damn straight!! In fact, I'm heading down to a patriotic rally of law abiding citizens right now. Oh, first I have to download that new Shania Twain song from kazaa.com; and then cash that massive refund check my accountant got for me on my taxes by being, er, aggressive, Enron-style; and also call my buddy at the police station and see if he can get that drunk driving charge fixed.

Those blasted liberals and welfare cheats had better start obeying the law of the land, let me tell you!
